Hi all,

So if read my Beastmen thread I have a lot of old models. So I am finishing my army atm (just got to get the Gorgon all my other models are from ages ago).

Here is my starting thoughts for my first foray into AoS:

Darkwalkers: 1950

Battalion: Hungering Warherd (1270)

Doombull: General (Nomadic Leader), Blackened Armour of Chaos
6 Bullgors: 2 Handed Axe
6 Bullgors: Axe & Shield
3 Bullgors: 2 Weapons
1 Gorgon

Other: 680
Great Bray-shaman
Great Bray-shaman
Dragon Ogre Shaggoth: Desolate Shard
10x Bestigors
10x Bestigors
10x Ungors

Gives me options. Will obviously have 1 Shaman and the ungors at the stone. All the units have options if want to run ambush or not. The Blackened armour, maybe make my general more survivable? He has to be my general for battle line.

Don't have my book with me (got paper this time, not the app), what's the Hungering Warherd do again?

If the Doombull's your general, I'm thinking you don't need all the little gors for battleliners. Might be good to get another big monster in there, perhaps a Cygor or Jabberslythe? With 3 casters, I might also recommend getting at least the Dirgehorn or Taurus spell in there too.

I'm working on the Brass Despoilers. I like many of these BoC battalions as we can make a whole army drop in 2-3 drops.

Hungering warheard is all pile in 6" instead of 3". Figure its good for the larger units of minotaurs

I need the ungors to sacrifice. I actually like the bestigors (they are not battle line unless run a Beast Lord) too cause can run and charge (and around my extra shaman even better and are ok, dragon ogres better but I don't own any and don't want to buy atm, but maybe in the future) to tie a unit up or hold them until my minotaurs (in reserve or not) get where they want etc. Is my thought anyway.

I have points left haven't decided on the spells might try work them in

If i was gunna run all my Minotaurs I would totally run Brass despoiler it seems awesome. However, I have painted my guys black and purple (my favourite colours and 90% of my armies are that ). I justify it that they are shadows for fluff. I could go Slaanesh but no way can say they are Khorne... So I'm not gunna run that battalion.

I might look at another/different battalion, just with such large units of mino's and probably flanking thought the extra pile in would be awesome.

The Gorgon I am gunna treat as my distraction carnifex.

Cheers for input

Ooh yeah, that extra pile-in is very useful. Hmmmm, maybe the rerolling hits of 1 could come from an allied Sorcerer Lord instead, though it's a spell which doesn't always cast successfully, especially with all sorts of unbinding around these days at 30".

Can't argue with the distraction Carnifex either though I think a Cygor would also give some distraction just because of the size.

If you want to run the Despoilers for a try, just say they're covered in Slaaneshi blood

Brass despoilers is the warscroll battalion that gives re-roll 1's to hit. Obviously re-rolls 1 army wide is very powerful, but I can live without it if it fits to the theme. Ye a choas sorcerer lord has the spell but I want to keep it pure beasts focused, I can live without it.

TBH I play games for fun and cause I like to play narrative driven armies (still be competitive or give randoms a good game and play with points etc but an army I like). Hence, a Khorne army doesn't really interest me. It seems powerful but it is against my theme/paint scheme and fluff for my army. If I was Khorne would have to run no wizards, have a red or reddish paint scheme, work in the number 8 somehow etc (you don't have to but I think my army would have to be that so).

I have gone for more of a shadow theme (and has the options if I want to run Slaneesh) because it fits with the background and theme I run my beast army with (the blackened armour relic even fits in even though a Shaggoth relic maybe better and I give the desolate shard to the doom bull or something).

The Cygor idk if worth it? I have enough dispels from my wizards and a 4+ to hit for a one shot weapon seems meh to me and he is bad in combat. The threat of the Gorgon seems more real to me and more of choice of something that has to be killed now before it hits my lines. But if anyone thinks different am interest to hear thoughts? I am new to AoS so all I want is advice.

Anything I am lacking or need?

I think I have some screens, some hitters, some summoning, some magic defense and attack. I think a good starting army for this AoS game. I am just finishing my painting and ordering a start collecting set for the gorgon. Cause work is hectic, a month I think before will have a game. So my list is to see what I may need to add change? What units should I have for summoning? (I have a crap tonne of mino's, ungors, gors, tzaangors, spawns and a chimera).

Cheers all

6 Bullgors: 2 Handed Axe
6 Bullgors: Axe & Shield
3 Bullgors: 2 Weapons
1 Gorgon

Other: 680
Great Bray-shaman

Dragon Ogre Shaggoth: Desolate Shard
3x Dragon Ogres: Draconic crusher

Played a few games all wins. Pretty fun because close games. No smashes etc (just casual fun games) Changed it up (bought a few dragon ogres) Thinking crushers but any thoughts? war-glaives or paired?

War glaives for the rend.

Agree, I like the rend and the extra reach since it's hard to get the big cavalry bases in range sometimes for 1".

I used the Shaggoth this weekend. Pretty unimpressive I must say, though he did tank a bunch of wounds and heal, and repeat. But I think if he's running with Dragon Ogors definitely a better use than a generic Chaos allegiance hero.

I also had Gutter Runners and Blightkings outflanking and they were awesome (aside from Total Commitment mission where there are no reserves). So I am definitely liking the Darkwalkers greatfray. Positioning is so key to victory. The Desolate Shard popping up in the backfield with the cowards hunkering in a forest might be pretty darn useful.

The reason to take Darkwalkers is outflanking minotaurs, so he has that down.

Dragon Ogors may not look it at first glance but are an anvil unit. They are really durable for their cost and despite having a lot of attacks those attacks are kind-of puny.

I went for converting up some sweet warhammers (crushers) on my dragon ogres haven't trialed them yet. I figure if use them within the heard stone range is gunna be -1 anyway and if not, every wound that goes threw has to do something.

That's a good point, did not consider the herdstone element.

Entire point went crushers, if don't flank them they are a solid anvil, or if do flank them they are a solid damage to go threw or draw fire/hits. I think they would draw a lot of enemies cause everyone thinks they need to take them out (cause of all the hype), So they for-fill multiple roles, draw fire, anvil and can flak if need.
