Are there any rules for the size (base and model) of using units that don't have models?

For example the chaos lord on steed of slaneesh does not have a model, could I use the chaos lord on manticore?

There arent any rules for units that don't have models. You can proxy whatever you want. Discuss with your opponent pregame.

There are also no rules for base sizes, this edition.

There's technically nothing in the rules that stop you putting a Grot on an Imperial Knight base.

That said, basic etiquette would mean that kind of thing would result in you not getting many games

Note that tournaments generally will have rules for base sizes though, usually based on old GW rules along the lines of use the base size the model is sold with.

That still doesn't help you of course, but there isn't an absolute RAW on this.

If you're just going to play against friends, ask your friends if it's ok. Or just do it if it's a reasonable base size, they probably won't say anything.

If it's for a tournament, check with the TO.

The rules don't require you to use the "correct" model for a datasheet. You can use a Gretchin mode to represent a Knight Gallant and you can use 30 Knights to represent a unit of Gretchin if you so desire.

* For the one game someone agrees to play with you before you struggle to get another one ever again.

For such units that once had a model or have similar models, I'd look to those when choosing a proxy or building a model. The Steed of Slaneesh is easily locatable in the Seekers of Slaneesh kit. It is WAY smaller than a Manitcore if my memory is correct, making that a not very appropriate proxy.

I don't know about that. If someone was fielding 30 Knights as grots, I suspect that there would be a fair number of people who would play multiple times just for the fun of killing that unit.

Technically Talonmaster has no official model. It HAS to be made as kitbash using ravenwing upgrade sprue and a standard non-DA landspeeder as they don't make DA landspeeder.

That’s not a kitbash though. It’s just an alternate name/use for the Sammael build. It’s an official kit repurposed, albeit one that comes in two boxes. Sorry to well ackshually you!

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"

Grey Knights Grandmaster in Nemesis DreadKnight Armor has no model, it’s a kit bash of the regular DreadKnight kit plus a lot of bling.
