Such a clever thing to do, especially in an area where two officers were killed recently.

I think cops get off with murder with far more frequency than should be tolerated and I think that's low class. Nevermind that some cops died in the area recently. It's just not a productive way of approaching the problem.

That said, I'm not sure how this topic won't inevitably become political in nature.

What could possibly go wrong.

also though i cant watch this at work the thumbnail shows them holding gun props. I though most high schools have a zero tolerance policy regarding guns and things vaguely in the shape of a gun.

As long as it's for Football, everything goes. The Cheerleader uniforms at most schools around here don't meet the dress code requirements, but it's okay to wear them every friday.

And you're more or less completely incorrect...but don't let pesky things like facts, numbers, and actual shooting evidence get in the way of your "murder murder murder!" narrative.

He does not have evidence to prove that cops never away with murder, ever, not even once. Which is what would be required to render Hats incorrect. But then I suppose we all know that

Let's just not. There's no point debating it here. It'll just lead to a thread lock.

I though most high schools have a zero tolerance policy regarding guns and things vaguely in the shape of a gun.

To be fair it is Missouri. I don't know exactly where they fall relatively, but they have some of the least restrictive gun laws in the US easily.

That said I won't be shocked to hear some people get some punishments and they'll probably deserve them. This is a really stupid stunt.

It’s in Mississippi.

Aw damn. And here I was all prepped and ready for a bunch of misery puns. What I get for jumping the gun (oh hey!).

Actually isn’t Mississippi even less restrictive? I’m pretty sure I’ve seen both on lists of states with the most liberal gun laws (as in least regulated).

"It is never okay for students to participate in something that defiles and desecrates a law enforcement officer" is precisely why I'm glad they did it. The police can off with their demands for unquestioning respect and obedience, and their hyperbolic whining about how anything less is the foulest of acts.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Some interesting comments so far. Some I heavily disagree with, but good to see what the thoughts are in this group.

Which specifically? That police officers in the US are rarely held to meaningful account for wrongful fatal shootings? That students need to be taught unflinching obeisance to police officers?

I think the real offense here, if there is one, is what the hell does any of this have to do with football.

Schools in lots of parts of Mississippi will contain student parking lots with trucks having full gun racks so that they can go straight to hunting after school.

They probably figured given the way American Handegg sucks up all the funding, this was the only way to keep some semblance of a Drama class going?

This is what happens when your band sucks so bad they can't compete with other bands in regional contests. I imagine this was a career changing event for the band instructors.

So let me get this straight. You support students glorifying murder?

So, are these opinion only anti cop, or would you also be okay with them depicting the shooting of an ethnic minority?

I think it’s dumber than a box of rocks to be training students to be pointing guns at cops. Teachers are in a position of authority and quite often there will be those children in their charge who look to them as some sort of moral compass, taking their cues from them. It doesn’t matter if you respect cops or think they’re the scum of the earth, putting this kind of exhibition on using high school kids in this kind of venue is out and out stupid.

Yeah that doesn’t surprise me. Mississippi seems like the kind of place where guns on open display aren’t an oddity, even fake ones. One of those it’s gonna be a bit different depending on where you are sort of things. Where I live I see people acting uncomfortable or nervous in that situation if only because people walking around with guns in plain sight are really uncommon even though open carry is legal. There just aren’t that many people who actually do it.

I don't support high school sports, period, so I'm ok with extending that to literally any kind of halftime show that would accompany said events.

Maybe we can turn this into one of those examples where we roll the tape and ask the class “what did they do wrong”

Wrong venue
Wrong timing
Rotten taste
Etc
Etc
