Hey guys. Been a while since i've played if you can't tell. Was just wondering if there are still rules for using the griffon heavy mortar as they are not in the new codex. Has the unit just been abandoned?

I think its last appearance was in Imperial Armour Volume 1 2nd edition. It's been gone from the main codex since the 6th edition book was released.

It got shifted out of the codex in 6th back to an IA book. It probably is in the FW index, though I don't own that particular book so I can't be sure.

The model is OOP, the rules are in the FW 8th edition index but they are so terrible that you will never use them. It's best to just proxy it as one of the good artillery tanks.

Cynically speaking, it got replaced by the Wyvern.

It is in the Imperial Armour Index - and yes you can just use it as a Wyvern if you wish.

PS: Took a glance..and it's rules are pretty crap. You're better off running it as something else. It's more or less a much more anemic Basilisk.

I think it reappeared in the 5th ed guard codex. Never to be heard from again...

On moon miranda.

yeah, it was in the 2E and 3E guard codexes, disappeared from the 3.5E book, went to being an FW unit, reappeared in the 5E book, disappeared from the 6E book and went back to FW, and that's where it's remained.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Sub it as a basilisk. I certainly would not be bothered if an opponent were to do that.

Or why not just run it as griffon heavy mortar rather than count-as'ing whatever?

Because the Griffon rules are unplayable trash, and losing because your units suck isn't fun?

What's the guns stats?
Just the gun. The rest is just a chimera hull, so I can guess on the rest.

It's an earthshaker with less strength, AP, and range.

48" Heavy D6, Strength 6, -1, D3....roll twice for shots like a Basilisk, and ignore cover.

I didn't look up the cost, but if it's not dirt cheap that's a massive waste on a tank chassis.

Well, I take it back..that's actually pretty damn good ...based solely on having an armour chassis to roll around in...I s'pose.

FW Index Imperial Armour: Forces Of The Astra Militarum has rules for this.

Don't worry, after CA 2018 it'll probably cost 100 points without the heavy bolter.

Maybe. They could go down because it doesn't get used much.

Oh wait... forge world.

Yup, the joke was GW's nerf bat beatdown of FW stuff in the CA last year (and I bet we'll see more of it this year too).

The tinfoil hat wearers would suggest that with the currency price hike of FW globally, the point costs of these models will drop to encourage sales as per the GW evil master plan

"Courage and Honour. I hear you murmur these words in the mist, in their wake I hear your hearts beat harder with false conviction seeking to convince yourselves that a brave death has meaning.
There is no courage to be found here my nephews, no honour to be had. Your souls will join the trillion others in the mist shrieking uselessly to eternity, weeping for the empire you could not save.

To the unfaithful, I bring holy plagues ripe with enlightenment. To the devout, I bring the blessing of immortality through the kiss of sacred rot.
And to you, new-born sons of Gulliman, to you flesh crafted puppets of a failing Imperium I bring the holiest gift of all.... Silence."

Well, the only way to get a Griffin right now is to convert a basilisk, so FW isn't getting much cash out of it either way.

You can also kitbash them out of the Heavy Mortar towed artillery that Forge World sells, but making them out of Basilisks would be a lot cheaper. Forge World wants a ton of money for their towed artillery for some reason.

I'm trying to decide if I'd put that in a Marine army for 85 points with the hull mounted Heavy Bolter. I think I would. Pretty sure I would.

Considering what FW costs these days towing an actual artillery piece to my games would be cheaper.

Just slap a 1/35th heavy mortar in the back of a Chimera hull

The moment you see Peregrine moan something is trash you know it's worth taking multiple of in reality.
