I am considering going 15mm for Kings of War.

Is this OK in the gaming circuit? If I had 15mm army vs. generic 25-28mm army in a game is that a big deal?

The sheer cost and scope of 100's of miniatures in 15mm is more attractive.

Thanks for your replies!

I think it would look very jarring facing off against a 28mm army.

You're probably going to spend the same amount of money if you're going to try and fill the 25mm base sizes with 15mm miniatures.

I'd say you've got a choice to make - either play in 28mm with regular base sizes, or play in 15mm with smaller bases - say, 40x20mm for a infantry troop (so 40x40 for regiments) and 40x30mm for cavalry.

It's not a big deal, no

Base size is everything in KoW rules, so as was noted, 15mm would be about 4x model count unless you slash the base size down to fit 15mm 5x2 infantry and 5x1 cavalry blocks. That would let you play on a 3x2 foot table, but only against opponents who have such armies.

Remember you don't always need a unit to be the full mini count thanks to the Minimum Model Count (MMC) and Preferred Model Count (PMC), admittedly MMC bases for Hordes and Legions look a little sparse but 6-8 for a Troop or 11-15 Regiment is fine

I actually tried it with Demonworld miniatures. It's not a big deal...you can easily solve the "scarce" problem by adding a few more miniatures here and there (and say "gak it" to the MMC/PMC, actually only the base matters since everything is based on it, miniatures are just there to "make it pretty"). It's also easier to buy lots of miniatures in 15 mm for a fair price and really have that massive army feeling. IMHO, 15 mm is much, MUCH more suited to games like KoW, despite what the 28 mm lovers will say.

But hey, Mantic has to sell these crappy PVC miniatures coming from the time they did proxies for WHB, don't they ?

Thanks for the feedback. I've done a little online research & in the forums here. I've concluded:

1. Collect two 15mm armies. So I can always have a game with my buddies.
2. One of the two armies should be able to crossover from Fantasy to Historical easily. Such as my purposed Barbarians Army that converts to Celts for example.
3. I can more easily paint and buy a 2500 point army in metal.
4. The Kings of War 70% rule for models per base isn't really needed when you go to 15mm. Models are 50-75% cheaper in 15mm.
5. I am making Infantry bases 80mm wide across the board seems more viable for most block troops types of games.

Everyone is addicted to 28mm, Warlord is just as bad. Hawk, PSC, Battlefront, and Spartan had the right idea with 10mm / 15mm, even if Flames of War is a bit of a shitshow, and Planetfall went with Spartan and is probably years away from a rerelease with Warcradle, if ever.
