I've decided to take the plunge into a new faction for me, the Tau. I play regularly at 500 points and I was hoping to get opinions on a list at this cost level. Thus far I have the Start Collecting! box, though nothing is assembled. So, here are the real questions that need to be asked: what is the best way to assemble the models included in this box? Furthermore, with any points left over what should I add to flesh out the last of the 500 points? Lastly (and this is comparatively unimportant) I really like the Krootox Rider model as well as the Kroot Hounds,though I know nothing about them. Are they worth running or should I skip it? Thanks a lot in advance!

I just looked over the box contents, its a nice group of models to start with, use them all, it should be around around 300pts... from the plethora of tournament lists that I see on Dakka, your next purchase ought to be a pathfinder box, you'll want the new specialst drones and the obligatory pathfinder ion rifles. After that, probably kit bash a fire knife cadre and a marksman and/or darkstrider. And see where that takes you. (keep the crisis team cheaper, and max out the drones you have.)

My next goal is to figure out how to ion rifles without having to buy the whole pathfinder kit.
