Hi guys, so I have my Paladin Ancient modelled with a Banner, held in the right arm and with a Psycannon held with the left.

The model has no visible melee weapon.

The model also matches the example of the model shown in the codex itself, in fact its pretty much identical barring the Psycannon instead of the Storm Bolter.

The Codex states:

"A Paladin Ancient is a single model armed with a storm bolter, frag grenades, krak grenades and psyk-out grenades"

"This model may take a Nemesis falchion or replace it's storm bolter with an item from the special weapons list."

So the Pyscannon I have no issues with, its modelled, clearly legal to take that, I have included the added points value of it in to my army list.

So here is my question, the nemesis falchion (lets just say swoard for ease!) doesn't costs any points. However can I say my model has one those, given it clearly isnt modelled anywhere?

So, if the answer is no:

A. Could someone in theory, then just model the sword on to the right arm, and say, stick the banner on his back, or top of the power armour? Thing has no points value, now its got both sword and banner?

B. If it doesn't have sword, what does it have? Punch? Can it swing the banner around and lump people with that?

What You See Is What You Get means precisely what it says. If the model is given a sword on your list, it should have a sword on the model. Whether or not it costs points is irrelevant.

As always with WYSIWYG issues, whether or not that's a problem is of course between you and your opponent, or the TO in the case of organized play.

Just put the Falchion hanging from his belt, it’s a pretty “small” sword comparatively speaking. You can swap out the grip with the bottom of a Staff or Hammer. Easy peesy and no issues with WYSIWYG.

Isn't it an either/or situation?
I'm not sure you can take both the Psycannon and the Falchion on the same model. I admit I'm not completely familiar with the GK rules.

Of all the races of the universe the Squats have the longest memories and the shortest tempers. They are uncouth, unpredictably violent, and frequently drunk. Overall, I'm glad they're on our side!

You cannot take both a psycannon and a falchion since it says "may take a Nemesis falchion" "or" "replace it's storm bolter with an item from the special weapons list". So if you replace the storm bolter you don't get a falchion. You could have a Falchion and a storm bolter, in that case you'd have to model it so that you have a storm bolter on the same arm you have your banner or your sword.

Putting a sword on his belt or on his back is perfectly fine. You're not taking rules to fit the model, you're taking models to fit the rules. Just because a model isn't available for a loudout doesn't invalidate it, you just have to get creative.

I just checked my battlescribe, granted it's not the best, but it'll work in this situation. A Paladin Ancient has the option to replace his SB AND Falchion with a Terminator Heavy Weapon (Psycannon).

Try checking the Codex instead of a 3rd party ap, whose files are community-sourced; and even warns/tells you that they may be incorrect.

It is or, not and/or; you may only have a Falchion or a Psycannon, never both.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

"This model may take a Nemesis falchion or replace it's storm bolter with an item from the special weapons list."

Note the word "or".

It's either falchion+storm bolter or psycannon but no falchion.

And this is why you don't use battlescribe for codex replacement. You might save money but you will end up with illegal armies with quite possibly incorrect point values as well.

I didn't have my codex handy when I answered the question. That's why I qualified my answer by saying it was from "Battlescribe" "and not the best". The point being a GKPA can't take a Psycannon and a Falchion.

I do find it kind of odd that they can't though, considering regular GK Termies and Paladins can both be equipped with Terminator Special Weapons and still take a pair of Falchions...
