Lakseland

Hello everybody

A couple of month ago my friend convinced me to start up on my old warhammer hobby once again. I might have stopped my journey in the lands of warhammer more than 10-15 years ago and at that time i was to young to understand the quality of the game and then there came skateboarding... and beer! Anyway... I have, of cause, gone all in now! Now my soul purpose is to disintegrate my brothers armies from the board!

For our first war-game we will be assembling and painting a 1000pts army list.

My brother, or arch nemesis if you prefer, is playing the horrifying Tyranids. I will be playing Necrons and for me as a newbie wh40k player, I feel somewhat overwhelmed by the numbers of miniatures in his army. I do not remember his entire army list but it goes something like;

1 x Trygon Pirme
1 x Brout Lord
3 x Tyranid Warriros
24 x Genestealers
20 x Homagaunts
20 x Termagaunts
3 x Ripper Swarms

He has more than twice the amounts of miniatures on the table than me. I know that the Tyranid troop-units will die fairly easy but when looking with my newbie-eyes it feels like I am at a disadvantage with my 36 Necron figurines... Well it might just be the fear of the destructive Tyranid forces crawling in my vanes. Nonetheless I would like to hear some thoughts from other people than myself and friend..

MY NECRON 1000PTS ARMY LIST!!
("Their story fits my own return to the warhammer world, as I have apparently been hibernating in my stasis-crypt for quite awhile now...!")
(Click on spoiler to see)
Spoiler:
++ Battalion Detachment +5CP (Necrons) [55 PL, 1000pts] ++

Dynasty Choice
- Dynasty: Maynarkh: Dynastic Code: Aggressively Territorial
(MY NOTES: This dynastic code to have the ability to re-roll failed hit rolls of 1 with my units, as long as they haven't moved in their movement phase or classified as disembarked)

+ HQ +

Cryptek [5 PL, 85pts]: Artefact: The Veil of Darkness, Canoptek Cloak, Staff of Light

Overlord [6 PL, 130pts]: Resurrection Orb, Warscythe
- Warlord: Warlord Trait (Codex 3): Immortal Pride
(MY NOTE This Warlord trait to pass leadship within 6" of the Warlord and the ability to deny 1 psychic power in each of the enemies psychic phase)

+ Troops +

Immortals [4 PL, 85pts]: 5x Immortal, Tesla Carbine

Necron Warriors [6 PL, 120pts]: 10x Necron Warrior

Necron Warriors [6 PL, 120pts]: 10x Necron Warrior

+ Fast Attack +

Canoptek Scarabs [2 PL, 39pts]: 3x Canoptek Scarab Swarm

Canoptek Wraiths [18 PL, 275pts]: 5x Canoptek Wraith

+ Heavy Support +

Annihilation Barge [8 PL, 146pts]: Tesla Cannon

++ Total: [55 PL, 1000pts] ++

The speculations and questions that my soul is seeking out are more like comments and evaluations on what to expect against Tyranids as Necrons, my army-list, choice of dynastic codes and warlord traits etc.

Do this even work? Is this good or bad? Will Tyranids just swarm my beloved Necrons? What style of playing do i even prefer?
This might be close to impossible to answer these questions, as I do not fully comprehend the game nor do I have the knowlagde to fully be utilise the powers of my faction properly. This will only come with blood and pain, tears and sweat. One can only try to prephare as much as possible. The key of victory is adaptability and the only way to be adaptable is to know what your army is truly capable of.

This list is based on what I have painted first.. As the first battle is going to be with FULLY painted miniatures! Yes i know we are torturing ourselves by not allowing us to play with unfinished figurines.. But I will be worth the torment!

Hope to hear some thoughts and critique!

.....And sorry for my long post...

You need tesla immortals buffed with MWBD against this tyranid list. 10 immortals with MWBD can easily do 30 hits, which is perfect against genestealers and gaunts with their 5+ and 6+ sv. Scarabs will provide a blockade against genestealers trying to assault your immortals. If they break through you can use the veil of darkness to teleport to safety. Destroyers will go after prime and warriors, with EP they will take them down easily. Here is my suggestion. Nihilakh is the same as maynarkh, but you get access to the orb of eternity.

Spoiler:

++ Battalion Detachment +5CP (Necrons) [52 PL, 990pts] ++

+ No Force Org Slot +

Dynastic Heirlooms: Dynastic Heirlooms: 1 Extra Artefact (-1CP)

Dynasty Choice: Dynasty: Nihilakh

+ HQ +

Cryptek [5 PL, 95pts]: Artefact: The Veil of Darkness, Chronometron, Staff of Light

Overlord [6 PL, 129pts]: Artefact: The Orb of Eternity, Resurrection Orb, Staff of Light
. Warlord: Warlord Trait (Codex 3): Immortal Pride

+ Troops +

Immortals [4 PL, 85pts]: Gauss Blaster, 5x Immortal

Immortals [8 PL, 170pts]: Gauss Blaster, 10x Immortal

Immortals [8 PL, 170pts]: Gauss Blaster, 10x Immortal

+ Fast Attack +

Canoptek Scarabs [6 PL, 91pts]: 7x Canoptek Scarab Swarm

Destroyers [15 PL, 250pts]
. 5x Destroyer: 5x Gauss Cannon

++ Total: [52 PL, 990pts] ++

Shifting all my warriors with big units of immortals! That actually sounds pretty awesome..

The only obstacle I have is; that I need 15 more immortals and also I do not have any destroyers.. I do have 6 ready painted Wraiths though...
But I have 5 Immortal that i will assembly today, hopefully...

My list will end op being something like;
As I do not have the amount of Immortals nor Destroyers, I need for the list that [p5freak] provided. I had to make some "small" adjustments.
Ideally, I would have the unit of 10 Warriors changed with a unit of 10 Immortals. Also, for maximum advantage I should change my Wraiths with Destroyers.

I also have a couple of questions:

1. Does "Orb of Eternity" stack with the Crypteks "Technomancer"?

2. Immortal question: Why choose Gauss Blasters' instead of Tesla Carbines? In my head, with Tesla-Carbines would they not be able to produces even more hits?

3. Against an enemy with large numbers of troops; is it better to do a static shooting army than doing a more aggressive up-close assault based army?

4. How would you use wraiths to their full capacity?

Wraith could work as well, but they are melee units and they dont have an excellent stratagem like EP.

Yes.

My fault. I forgot to change it, of course, tesla.

Necrons can be good as a aggressive up-close assault based army, but not at 1000 points. They are better as a static shooting army against hordes at 1k.

Two possibilities with wraith, novokh, or nephrekh. As novokh they can re-roll failed hit rolls in the fight phase, as nephrekh they auto advance 6", and with a stratagem, they can still charge. So, either more hits, or a possible turn 1 charge.

Your origional list looked OK. The enemy list was actually quite weak, your list seems to be better.

Keep your units grouped up so that they can support eachother, and you will be fine. If you can have the enemy bottleneck when they attack you (ie in the gap between two buildings), and foccuss your whole army on a small portion of his, you win the game.

Just dont spread out too much, and you will be OK. Also, always play to the mission.
