Subject: Anyone mount cannons on bases?

So I got a good deal on a lot of various sized bases that I need along with some extras, and two of them look like they would be a perfect size for the mortar and another for the great cannon I have for my Empire Army. I typically prefer to avoid bases unless I really need them, and I don’t think the great cannons do, however I am a big fan of the extra bits that the sprues come with, like the ram rods and cannon balls, and rather than just lay them around the cannons I thought about mounting everything on their bases next to the cannons. I would leave the crew on their own bases of course.
Has anyone done this? If so, did you like how they turned out? Or do you regret doing it?
I guess I could always mount those extra items on their own base too.
This kind of came up because I thought I would try to make my Chariots without bases, but they look pretty fragile and so I decided to base them. The only thing I wouldn’t have based at this point are my cannons.
What do you think?

Every War Machine that I own for WFB is on a base. Literally every model I use in the game is on a base. The Dwarf cannons can fit on monster bases pretty easy, but some of the machines don't fit well. The Empire Great Cannon, for instance, is sitting on a Chariot base because of overlap on a monster base.

Ok will give this a shot. I am guessing they would make nice diorama pieces. I was just thinking it might be a little awkward making them more bulky. And honestly I use GW for my reference and I have never seen them do it. But I also haven't seen them use the little accessories either. Just the crew.

I know you're talking about WFB, but for AoS the guideline is a 90 x 52mm base for a cannon.

I delayed my answer so to vex you.
I use custom 75x75mm bases for artillery, unless it is too big in which it has a 75x150mm base.
The exception being my Hellcannon which is both monster and artillery.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

I used some of the ooooooooold green plastic movement trays that were in the 1998-ish plastic boxes of Chaos Warriors and Night Goblins. I cut corrugated cardboard to fill most of the space, but had three 20mm spaces for the crew as they take casualties and not be a total pain in the ass for storage.
