I play 'nids normally, but thought a second list of GSC would fill in fluff nicely (I'm thinking a small group of infected guardsmen starting to revolt). I have 1 box of Imperial Guard, a sprue of GSC upgrades, and some 'nids bits left over. What list would you make out of these? I don't mind buying a few weapons for upgrades, but not looking to buy another box of figures. I have PLENTY of gene stealers to fill out my list as needed. I mainly play against Necrons, CSM, and Orks.

It looks like a good list, here are a few things to think about.

A Genestealer veteran that gets a free move up the board at the start of the game, and that is getting both experience points in a campaign. Using the free flesh hook and Acid Maw upgrades on your genestealers.

Possibly taking a neophyte leader rather than a Genestealer which you really want up the board. I plan to stay out of sight with my leader and then maybe use him as a counterattack or a follow up attack once lots of things are bogged down.

Something more like this:

Keeping all my gene stealers non-specialist lets me loose 1 and still get fire team xp.

I can definitely say, don't focus too hard on Melee or you just set yourself up for failure. Got absolutely picked apart doing that the other day.

Managed to get in two games, though didn't play the exact list above in either.

Both games were against people playing their first game of Killteam, though to be fair this is only my 4th and 5th.

Game 1 vs Deathwatch. A 5 man squad with frag cannon, heavy flamer/ Bolter, stalker Bolter + power maul, combi plasma and xenophase sword on sergeant.

I swapped out the seismic cannon for a basic guy to even up the points as he was at 94.

This turned into a bit of a disaster.

First turn got the abberant into combat with the sergeant, lost the veteran stealer to over watch from the shotgun. Lost the other two stealers to shooting, after combat had only managed to get the first flesh wound (ignored) on the sergeant and similar on the shotgunner. 2nd turn the sergeant fell back and I wasn't sure if I could charge him so fell back and then was basically mangled by shooting from there. Game ended with only 3 of my models on the map and marines undamaged.

2nd game was against Elucidian Startstriders, so I swapped out the veteran Genestealer and seismic cannon for an Acolyte Zealot and Cult Icon bearer to tone it down a bit. This game was much closer and in fact ended up as a draw. First turn saw two neophytes cult ambush 12" up after a good advance role, they then charged the rotor cannon turn 1 to take him out. We decided to let the rotor cannon use the point blank over watch stratagem as both neophytes charged from out sight but it didn't pan out.

Voidsman Nitsch killed a Genestealer on over watch and then the game developed into a large melee in the centre with various pot shots taken round the fringe. I whiffed pretty hard in the close combats. The game ended with a daring teleport grab on a last objective being denied by a cultist shooting the tech priest dead with a shot gun.

Overall a great game.

Further thoughts on the game.

So far my basic strategy with GSC has been sort of a bum's rush, which has the potential to work but seems to fail big when it fails.

I'm finding hand flamers pretty underwhelming, if I am close enough to use it I am probably better charging.

The mining laser is frustrating, previously it has done ok but generally it is needing 5+ to hit if not 6+, a struggle in campaign play because it can only earn 1 experience a game however that will change when it reaches 2nd level. Last night it hit once out of 10 shots, but that is going to happen. Possibly I need to be a bit more aggressive and move it closer and maybe with seismic cannon in the same list I will try this.

I need to be a bit more careful with the Genestealers but they have to move up the board and that is going to be risky, possibly scouting them forward might be worth a try but we have not been using the scouting phase so far

Oooff, went against my son with Kommando Orks, got wiped off the table... It may have been me being used to playing my 'nids, but I could shoot anything, and other because of bad rolls on my genestealers, they weren't doing much of anything either.

The lists above will struggle vs SM in general (CSM, DW, etc). Low S, low AP, low D, I don't really see it working, and I can imagine my DW cleaning the table quite easily. You need a couple of heavy hitters, like mining lasers, Aberrants and/or hybrids with saws. Also, I dont' think a Medic makes sense in the match play, I mean outside campaign.
