HOW DO!

So here’s a thread. And the title is the question, and not even slightly misleading.

See, the previous demise of Specialist Games was sales volume. It wasn’t that they weren’t necessarily selling. Just that development for the main games allegedly yielded better turnover, and therefore profit. Short sighted or however you feel about, there’s definitely logic there.

But now it’s all resurrected and lovely and ace. The models are spankier than ever, the support more regular than ever. But is it actually working? Is it separating us from our hard earned or ill gotten gains?

Now this is a genuinely open question. There’s no agenda. There’s no point trying to find a way to prove itself. I’m just genuinely interested in what us Nerds are actually buying.

Me? I’m a bad, filthy, terribly Specialist Gamer. I’m just not buying at the moment. Oh, I have plans. Such wonderful plans. But then, I get like distracted and stuff. Too many shinypretties. I basically buy the basics, then sort of wander off. Largely this is down to my already reported lack of hobby opportunity. But that’s something I’m working on.

I will collect enough Titans that I can field a selection of Maniples, and with a variety of big deff. Probably at this stage couple of boxes of Warhounds, couple of Reavers, maybe three, and probably another Warlord. Then like, weapons and stuff. For Necromunda, I want to run it as the Guilder, facilitating the gaming joy of others. That gives me a cracking excuse to get ‘one of everything’ in terms of characters and gribblies. But I’m afraid Bloodbowl just doesn’t work for me. It’s my problem, not the game!

But again, that’s planned fyootcha spending. I want to find out what sort of bread you’re laying out. And hey, this isn’t GW exclusive spending, this is anything that’s getting you spending on GW”s Specialist games (and if you’ve found really cool stuff, share a brother a link, yeah?).

Right, off you go.

I bought Necromunda and the Gang War sets, and then Kill Team came out and thats been my obsession. Actually a little irritated because of how much I spent on Necromunda hoping to get what Kill Team essentially was

Titans, ideally enough to field every maniple at full strength.
Why? One of the best rulesets I've seen in a while from GW and the models are divine to build and paint.

I considered same but then i decided loyal and traitor legions would be better idea than one super big legion. I don't have that much yet can play 4k game already!

I'm magnetising the heads and painting them in different colours to show loyalties.

I love reading when British people write stuff.

I’ve sunk several hundred in AT and I have every BloodBowl team (including multiple humans & orc teams) so I love multiple game systems. That said if all the GW stuff I’ve played I had an absolute blast playing BFG. I have an Armageddon navy where you could combine Marines and Imp Navy - I just LOVED it.

My group has bought a lot of kill team terrain and a few of the start collecting boxes. I haven't bought any new models since I already have roughly 9 kill teams if I tried hard enough but I'm loving how much new terrain GW has been pumping out lately, and may buy the storm trooper box. Gang wars has some players in my area though not a ton. The Titans game hasn't sold well at all in my area due to a combo of it's expensive and it's already a crowded market and so far lack of xenos units who are a solid majority of my local area.

Currently it's titans all day long, I think I have thrown over 500 euros at it by this point. More will follow, I do need a traitor legio as well...

#ConvertEverything blog with loyalist Death Guard in true and Epic scales. Also Titans and killer robots! C&C welcome.

I've bought a Grand Master Edition, two Reavers and four Warhounds for AT. That's it for those three classes, I think. I'm going to wait for additional chassis to come along before buying more.

For Necromunda, I've bought the game, all four Gang Wart books, the Gang Tactics cards (except Cawdor) and the Escher dice, and the Delta-7 Badzone tiles. I've got four additional sets of the Escher sprues from other people's games, but that doesn't help the SG sales figures any. I did pick up a set of weapons, and all the scum and bounty hunters. I'm waiting for Phyrr cats, kymerae, and more oddities.

Blood Bowl? I got the game, the winter pitch and the refs. All still unused.

I have all that Necro, too. But, FOUR sets of Escher sprues! I bow to your Escher fetish.

My favorite purchase has proven to be Death Ray Design's "Deadbolt's Derelict: Corridors" for the Zone Mortalis tiles. They really make the ZM game come alive! Oh, and they aren't the only "terrain" options for the tiles, but I got a great deal on TWO sets.

First set of Escher was built as standard. Second ten got resin FW weapons. Third set, I made some “juves” (less extravagant hair, knives and pistols), a lascannon, a bolter and a bolter-flamer combi-weapon. Last ten will be oddballs - webber, chainaxe, bionics, etc.

I bought into Necromunda originally, and still haven't fully assembled my first gang. Then Kill Team came out, and it was the game I actually wanted anyway.

I have the original Shadespire box and two of the expansion forces.

I *wanted* to get into Adeptus Titanicus but the it's just too much: not just money, but the bigger models are just too complex and fiddly to put together, and after having assembled one Imperial Knight decided against it. I know there are people who just adore the more complex multi-part kits, but I am not one of them.

You can do the maniple with 4 Warhounds and a Reaver, that's just like an afternoon of building. Reaver legs are probably the most annoying things in AT but Warhounds go together fast.

Indeed, I got 6 Warhounds from sprue to fully assembled in an afternoon.

I've gotten into Kill Team, and I actually bought GW figs for the first time in about 5 years. The Fangs of Ulfrich, Space Wolf Primaris Upgrades and a combat squad of Intercessors. I've also ebayed one of the Intercessor Lts from DI and Haldor Icepelt.

And this has got me painting again, after a couple years without picking up a brush.

Specialist Games of Recent (e.g. not in the 80's,90's and 00's)

Necromunda: I have bought everything N17 apart from a few upgrade packs from forgeworld (I have put together/painted a starting gang and some upgraded models for each gang released so far, the bounty hunters and even bought some extras, like Judge dread looking models/space police and other NPC's from companies like Traders Galaxy etc).

Kill Team: I bought the starting set, Rogue trader, a few Sector Mechanicus's, the Deathwatch and tau starter sets, just ordered the commanders expansion set and a few commanders. I literally have not even opened one book from any. The only thing I have done with them is build all the terrain. I figure, I have them there if I ever want to play, just no interest atm.

Warhammer Quest: Bought both box sets, the cards, expansion characters etc. Play occasionally.

Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire and Nightvault, I am looking into it, maybe a future purchase.

Blood Bowl: No interest, I will never purchase.

Adeptus Titanicus: When they release all the weapons sprues and add in a few different races I may look into this, atm pass.

Lord of the RIngs: Looks ok, but will never purchase.

14k Generic Space Marine Chapters
20k Deathwatch
10k Sisters of Battle
3k Inquisition
4k Grey Knights
5k Imperial Guard
4k Harlequins
8k Tau

I really enjoyed the original Necromunda so the rerelease got me a bit frenzied on the scenery side of things. I got the core set, a dice pack and 2 extra boxes of the lovely lovely Van Saar models but at the moment I'm basically saving it all up in the hope I can play with my children when they grow up

Kill Team has gotten me hooked as well as a way to do a few of then nice new Primaris models. I've actually found some people to play that against as well

AT looks lovely and interesting and the models are gorgeous, but way too expensive for stuff that with all likelihood would just sit on a shelf.

Only Necromunda (the boxe, the gang wars books, and a Van Saar gang). Not enough money and time for the others, sadly...
