If you could choose what the next Battletome for AoS, what would it be.

As an old Empire player, I would like a Free Peoples Battletome.

Let me know your opinion.

Yes please. "Hordes of Gorkamorka" or something like that.

There are so many its impossible to choose!

Which is the main issue AoS has right now.

Personally I'd prefer to see them clean up what they've got out now rather than adding more new factions. So that means give Skaven the rest of their Battletomes; clean up the Aelves, give Slaanesh a new Battletome etc.... Basically clean up the house with the current models on the market THEN bring in big releases like the Dark and Light Aelf armies and suchlike

Right now so many get turned away from AoS because of how messy the store page is and how complicated it cna be to play any faction that isn't equipped with a current Battletome.

And considering how well AoS is doing just imagine what strengths it will be in when that issue is resolved and its no longer a barrier to entry!

I'd like to see this as well with some updated kits (i.e. most of them other than the Boarboyz).

Beasts of Chaos style battletome for Grots is needed I think. Not my personal wishlist-item (that would be Battletome: Firebellies) but I think it is what AoS needs right now.

Looks like Destruction it should be. Considering popularities, I would say that's Gobbos or Ogres. As much as I think the old flagship range of Free Peoples should be brought in.

As a side note, these factions are a complete a total mess and be properly coordinated again. I can understand the separation of the Dwarfs and the Iron Jawz and Bonesplitterz, but I'm still wondering why they split up the High Elves so dang much.

At launch I think Kirby's plan for AoS was to make it into a boutique line of models that would cycle small armies in and out all the time. It was taking the "people just buy awesome models" thinking to the extreme This mean we got some awesome launch models, but at the same time shattered armies (which likely also let them retire bits of armies quicker without as much pushback); the dropping of Tomb Kings entirely (which were not that old) and the utter dross that was the rules.*

AoS still suffers with this legacy and I can't quite work out why GW doesn't at least sort out the listings and then release battletomes later. We know that they are likely going to repeat what they did for Beasts of Chaos and combine up some forces. Plus some of the "factions" have only one or two models to their name - better to drop them or give each Grand Alliance a Grand Alliance mercenary force for those factions (ergo a merc group that can't be taken on its own but is there to provide allies to other factions).

* I've no problem with joke rules, but when you drop the serious rules and introduce only the joke rules as THE rules then its bad

But still I think it should be something Destruction, preferably goblins. Death is 100% covered unless they want to actually make new allegiances for it. Despite the number of factions on the site, Legions covered everything that wasn't Flesh Eater Courts until they came out with the new Nighthaunt models/book.

I agree, that it should be destruction for sure. It seems like rumors have been pointing to a Gobbo style book.

Death is fine for the moment, LoN, Flesh Eater Courts and Nighthaunt covers it really well. I imagine the goal is to do more Nighthaunt style death armies, but until then LoN is a great book.

It still feel like they are planing on releasing a new Goblin faction based around spoors/mushrooms. Weather this will be a stand alone army or have some of the existing goblins rolled into it, I can't say.

To those that say there is no stupid questions I say, "Is this a stupid question?"

I think putting Ogors back under the same roof would be the low hanging fruit in terms of how much work would be required to do the job. I mean, keep BCR and Gutbusters (Job 1, change that name) separate in terms of theme and play style, like LoN and BoC have to some degree for their respective factions. Maybe even add in "Mercenary" rules like back in the WHFB days when you could take some Ogre Kingdoms stuff in the majority of the other armies, and it becomes a Battletome that appeals to everyone.

I've been sitting on this for awhile, but here it goes. Don't take it as a personal attack, just an observation from someone who reads this forum vigorously.

auticus wrote:

Based on other conversations here, I'd say not matter what Battletome is released, you'll threaten/promise to quit AoS, like you have been since rumors of GHB1 were starting to hit:

GHB1
This is where I get off the bus.

So thats why I say - I'm off the bus. I'm not interested in having to play with SCGT comp unless I was going to one of their events, and now here locally if I want to play I will have to use SCGT comp.

There are other games out there and I will find one that interests me.

Thats fine. I'm going to get out of this hobby for a few years and check back then and see how things are. Sometimes taking a step back for a few years is what is needed. I know in the hey day of 7th edition I had to do the same thing because I was pretty burnt on the community and tournament gaming then and when I came back a few years later it was pretty strong and I had a lot of fun.

With points being official, my region is moving towards competitive AOS at the expense of narrative, so I'm sitting out for the next couple of years to watch what happens.

GHB2:
Right now the broken points have mostly dissolved my play group, so GHB2 may be a little too late

TLDR: what's left of my AOS community is about to evaporate because of these changes and I may be left with virtual tabletops to play any games of it or only get to play it by driving to the big tournaments and playing tournament style games as campaign games will be non existent. Or also go full in to kings of war.

Random dicsussion of AoS:
AOS fell short for me as well. I'm hoping perra bellum's conquest delivers as much as I think it will, because thats where I will be spending most of my fantasy gaming. Fantasic art, fantastic models, fantastic narrative, detailed narrative, and engaging game that doesn't destroy immersion.

AoS 2.0 rumors:

But at Adepticon, talking to the studio heads that were there ddidn't give me any warm and fuzzies as to that happening because they seem quite happy with the board game style game that AOS is and the direction it is going.

If in a year it turned out to be no big deal then great. I'll be invested in Conquest until then and if AOS is in a better place then I can just resume then.

A good many of us are going to go into wait and see mode and watch for 6-9 months while we play other games. I suppose it may be time for me to donate my armies up so that I no longer have that emotional attachment to them, and thus to what GW does. I suppose if AOS 3.0 in a few years continues along this dumpster fire of a path, that will be a lot easier to do if I'm already into another system (its just that with fantasy there hasn't really been a good system that has caught my attention and I'm hoping that that game is Conquest)

Its been fun. Thanks for the discussions.

Post AoS 2.0 :

I'm approaching a zero interest again.

After the campaign my group is currently involved in I will be putting AOS away until they revisit the balance issues that I have.

I don't really care about the subject anymore as I've emotionally moved my investment from AOS,

Beasts of Chaos rumors:

This book pushed me into kings of war territory. The doubling down of spam summoning coupled with the alpha strike builds of plop your units down wherever you want and charge broke my spirit.

Well yeah that would be considered a personal and antagonistic post that has nothing to do with the topic at hand being discussed or commentary therein that could have been relegated to a personal message but instead is being used as a tool for shaming. In your attempt at dismissal and shaming, you could have at least responded in a thread where I posted one of those quotes you have been keeping track of for three years. Do you have my home address as well?

If we're talking from a personal standpoint, Moonclan with plastic Squigs and new Squig based units.

For the good of the game they should continue tidying up the micro faction mess with more "Legions of" books.

I understand frustrations about this kind of post, but it is derailing the thread, and AoS threads need a little more grooming due to the lower volume.

Personal shaming aside, I want a Slaanesh book. It's been my army now for awhile and I just it proper like the other gods got.

I want orruks and skavens to get legions style books. I know some people hate soup books, but if the faction isn't going to get massively updated soon, just soup them until they can get fleshed out later.

Nearly 3k+ points of Slaanesh (AoS)
2500 points of Ironjawz
Too many points of Space Marines.

The fractured nature of the forces is one of the reasons I wanted a Free Peoples Battletome. It could contain the rules for the human factions that generally operate together, such as Free Peoples, Iron Wield and Collegiate Arcana.

But Legions of Gorkamorka sounds awesome too.

I think they need to do the generic forces for the various alliances first. Like they did with Legions of Nagash.

So the Battletomes I think GW should concentrate on is (in no particular order):
Slaves to Darkness
Legions of Gorkamorka
Free Peoples

Let the wishlisting continue.

If Death really needed to do another army, it would be more in reintroducing the Khemri. It would help them get back in to the greater variety that is missing from that Alliance. Right now Death is pretty much just vampires, ghouls, and midieval skellingtons.

Still, Destruction and the older Order armies need more presence than an army that GW has bascially squatted.
