It is good to see a bit more licensed aos stuff. I'm curious about the factions. I don't recognise some of those symbols.

Interesting...so we've got Fyreslayers, Dispossessed, Free Guild, must be Greenskinz, Skaven, Khorne, Stormcast, Scourge Privateers and Order Serpentis.

Very interesting indeed.

Wonder if it will turn out to be Talisman?

if you'd read the article you'd see it's not Talisman.

Designed by Rustan Hakansson, who has design credits on Nations and Dungeon Rush, The Rise and Fall of Anvalor has players helping to build and defend the city with other factions, at least officially. Each player’s real goal is to gather the most influence in Anvalor and dominate the city, even if it means its ultimate fall. Players build city buildings to gather influence, and defeat enemies during attacks. The player with the most influence at the end of the game wins.

some quotes/edits :

Warhammer Age of Sigmar The Rise and Fall of Anvalor is a tabletop board game by Wizkids, under the Games Workshop License. Anvalor is a region in the Mortal Realms in the world of Age of Sigmar. In the Rise and Fall of Anvalor, players build their forces and attempt to repel the enemy assaults in the build up to the final assault. All of the players are working together to build up Anvalor and defeat the enemy attackers, but the player with the most influence at the end of the game is the winner, so be prepared for some crafty shenanigans as players push their own personal agenda.

Setting up The Rise and Fall of Anvalor is a matter of putting the playboard on the side with the amount of players (1-2 or 3-4), selecting the forces the players wish to play and also choosing the enemy you wish to fight against. There are six factions for the players to chose from:

The Hammers of Sigmar
Order Serpentis
Anvils of the Heldenhammer
The Free Guild
The Dispossessed
Fyreslayers of the Vostarg Lodge

Once players have chosen their faction, they take all of the tiles for that faction, which are drawn randomly throughout the game like a hand of cards. Players also choose from one of four abilities that each faction has available, which have an effect throughout the game.

Players then choose an enemy race to play against. The core set has three enemies: the followers of Khorne, warriors and berserkers of the god of blood, war and skulls; a mighty Orruk warhost made up of a green tide of fighters who know only battle; and the Skaven, the ratmen of the underworld.

Selection of player faction and enemy faction is something I haven't seen for a while. More interested now.

I love that there's a Bloodbound faction in a game about building a city.

"Hey! Let's put those guys in the spiky red armor in charge of the Department of Agriculture. They keep screaming about corn, so they have both experience and enthusiasm!"

Sadly it looks like the followers of corn can only be the attackers, not the builders. I'd have liked to see them go against the grain but it looks like they can only stalk their enemies in this one.

Khorne building a city would be really anti-cannon, not to mention they have nothing to gain by doing so.

But at the same time the mental image of them pretending to be followers of "corn" and making an effort to seem like they are building while still murdering and collecting skulls...

Not necessarily. There are literal khorne buildings that GW sells. Yes, their city wouldn't be what we'd think of, but it likely would have food stores, butchers, armouries, walls, gladiatorial arenas etc.

Guess you never really think about the people who have to build all these chaos temples and warships and stuff. Imagine being an architect who has the job of designing Khornes latest temple. I guess even in the faction of crazed beserkers you need some people who can use a sliderule and the ability to be an administrator in charge of making sure the endless legions actually get fed etc.

NOT all Khorne Followers are Berzerkers, many are thriving societys builts around the idea of a Furious God of War, with blood sacrifices...

We had civilizations like those, Aztecs for example. Just like in the old world Norsca tribes where by the most part normal humans living a viking or horse nomad lifestyle but with the Chaos Gods as their pantheon.

A city is a lot more than those things. Resource production, industry, artisan crafts, housing, government, etc. A Khorne 'city' is either a fortress or a tribal camp. There are no Khorne cities in the fluff. Massive fortresses? Absolutely, and they can even have 'industy' as in forges and the like, but a settlement completely dedicated to war is not a city.

To say the Aztecs were like Khorne worshippers is... Well it's insultingly inaccurate.

I wasn't saying that Aztecs were like Khorne worshippers but as I said not everybody that worships the God of War is a warmongering crazy maniac, and you can absolutely have a pretty brutal religion as the foundation of a civilization.

Heck in 40k you had a full human civilizations built around the worship of Khorne like the Blood Pact of Ghourra, and Norscan tribes (Ok, they didn't had cities in the old world but that had less to do with Khorne and more with their way of life).

What I'm saying is that is perfectly "canon" to have a Chaos worshiping city where the lowly masses aren't crazy sex driven, knowledge driven or muder driven maniacs where their life is only devoted to their Gods.
To say that there are no Khorne Cities in the fluff with how open and big the Mortal Realms are is at least in my opinion a pretty bold statement.

"Chaos city" and "Khorne city" are two very different things. And what I meant is that there has never been any mention of a Khorne city anywhere in the fluff, and if that was a thing it would well be worth mentioning.

I mean, they gotta live somewhere. Supply chains don't come from nowhere. There's the blood pact for instance in 40k who absolutely have a civilization, one that's been getting more detail over time. They're not good places to live, but they exist.
