Hello there. As the title suggests, I'm planning on getting one of the starter sets for X-Wing, Armada and maybe Legion sometime next week. And I need some advice for starting out.

Now I know that the X-Wing and Armada starter sets only have three star fighters (1 X-Wing and 2 TIE Fighters) and three star ships (1 Victory Class Star Destroyer, 1 CR90 Corellian Corvette and 1 Nebulon-B Frigate) respectively. So I was wondering which factions in these three games are the most noob friendly? Is there even any difficulties with the play styles of certain factions or are they relatively the same in terms of player difficulty?

Also, what advice would you give for bulking up the core starter packs with extra units? Thank you and have a good day.

Hi, I cant speak to any game bar x-wing but for that game none of the five factions are any harder or easier to play than any other, they all supposedly have their own playstyle but there is so much over lap and no real defined faction identity (for example the Empire is often thought of the swarm faction due to the TIE/ln but Scum and Rebels can play the same with z-95s and the FO uses its own version). The Empire is supposed to be about selfish aces, the Rebels about intership synergy and Scum messing with your opponent but in reality no faction is really pigeon holed.

Presuming you are looking at getting into v2 then your best bet for getting maximum bang for buck is to check ebay and the trade areas here and on bartertown as a lot of people have quit the game recently and collections can picked up cheap. You will then need a conversion kit (or two, or five) to make the v1 stuff compatible for v2. I only play the one faction (Scum) and have so far only had to get the one conversion kit to be v2 competitive but some of the more janky lists would require me to get more.

Thanks for the advice. I figured there would be some overlap in the play styles. Though usually I'm not really comfortable with the thought of buying things off ebay, I'll look into it.

X-wing is very approachable. The basic rules are simple and the real skill of the game is learning to plan your movement and actions and guess what your opponent is doing.

To start, I would get the starter set as well as the conversion set for the faction you want to play, plus any ships that take your fancy. Since most ships will still be coming with 1st edition cards, you will need to buy the conversion set unfortunately. You will also need to download the App to get access to the point values of all the cards. Fair warning, the App requires an active internet connection while being used. Hopefully that will change, but for now we're stuck with it.

There are also a number of 3rd party squad builders that you could print your squads from if you want an alternative.

One important not: first order and resistance do not yet exist in 2.0, so beware of investing in those models.

The points and slots are also available as a PDF document on the FFG website so no need to go anywhere near the app!

Its a valid point, the NZ release date for the new trilogy stuff (and the mining guild TIE) is the 22nd of this month.

ingtaer, is there anything you need in the S&V pack that I might not want?

Still tying out lists at the moment so not really sure, definitely after both of Vaders droids and the Mouldy crow title but I am sure that you will want them... Yourself? I have gained a small pile of excess stuff including some Imps that you are welcome to if you want them. Will grab a list next time I am near my X-Wing stuff if you have a need.

Depending on what style of game you like to play Armada is a decent game.

xwing (imho) is a game that you can react very quickly when things start to turn against you and it's a game with little depth to it (just straight up dog fights most of the time). armada is a game of chess, you have to be thinking multiple steps ahead. objectives give a lot of depth to the game. you can run the same list multiple times with different objectives and have multiple different outcomes. i also like the "management" side of the game (i use that term loosely it's hard to describe) where you have to stage your activations to get maximum effect from your list..

i used to play xwing but i have zero motivation to play nowadays. i've done the whole nationals thing and that was enough for me. it has supposedly gotten better but i'm only hearing that from some returning players.

anyway that's my two cents.

Honestly... I'm good right now. The only ships I don't have enough dials and cards for are A-Wings and B-Wings. But seeing as those ships perform so far... I'm good, really.

I've actually strongarmed my community into holding a Wave 1 tourney, so I'm having entirely too much fun with Y-Wings and X-Wings at the moment.

You are correct that unique cards from those sets are remaining safely in my hands... I can't for the life of me don't understand why they did not include the HWK-290 title in a box that features pilots for the craft.

Love Armada. I get to play entirely too little of it. The time required for the game is just daunting lately. I've got so much on my plate that I just can't allocate that much time to the single pursuit of a game, sadly.

Before anyone miscontrues this, it's a reflection on the state of my life, not a problem with the game, imho.

Hi there, it's been a while. Sorry about that. I just have a couple questions regarding X-Wing.

1. What's the highest amount of points you can have for a match? I like the idea of forming massive fleets of starfighters dog-fighting with their enemies.

2. Is it possible to assemble an entire squadron full of the bounty hunters from the Empire Strikes Back?

Who.are you playing against? And how long do you have? Within those limits you can play with as many points as you like.

I 1st edition I had a 200pt game against my.nephew. it took ages and got.a bit hard to.focus on, but it was eminently playable.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I have the Second Edition Core Set (1 X-Wing and 2 TIE Fighters) along with 2 Y-Wings, 1 TIE Advanced and a Slave I (or rather a Firespray-class Patrol Craft). I've got a friend whose shown interest in playing it.

Could you potentially play a 900 or 1000 point game? Also, is there anyway to change the amount squad points on this website ( https://squadbuilder.fantasyflightgames.com/ ) to accommodate larger squads? Or am I better off using one of the fan made squad builders? I've heard that FFG's own one is very buggy or something along those lines. Got any recommendations for squad building alternatives?

200 points is both the standard and the realistic maximum. Above that the game bogs down too much and the maneuvering space gets too crowded. You end up with a ball of ships bumped in the middle of the table exchanging dice until someone finally wins.

2. Is it possible to assemble an entire squadron full of the bounty hunters from the Empire Strikes Back?

Squad made of nothing but those bounty hunters? Sure, easy. It might not be competitive, but it's possible. Of all of them? Nope, too many points to get that many ships.

2.0 the standard is 200 points.

But everything basically doubled in price to.keep.the overall number of.ships.per side about the same at between something like 2 and 8.

Oh, right, typo because I'm so used to writing that argument about 1.0. Yes, 200 points is the standard and the realistic maximum in the current edition.

I actually think you can play above 200. I’d say 600 might be the point where it becomes unwieldy, assuming nobody goes full swarm. And obviously you gotta play on a 3x6
