Good to see the leak (and translations of it), but dear god it's underwhelming to get a "preview" article with old information and no point costs or upgrades.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Its the new business model, all new and improved so that when they screw up really badly they can change things around and no one will ever know! Corse there are a couple more pilots we have already seen (Midnight and Omega Leader if memory serves).

Looks like we are not good for the wave to be released on the 22nd, with the TIE/pacman and the all new totally original A-Wing still to be previewed.

That pilot "Static" seems good

3/4 automatic critical hits seems pretty powerful, even more so if you can give "Static" more dice somehow.

We love what we love. Reason does not enter into it. In many ways, unwise love is the truest love. Anyone can love a thing because. That's as easy as putting a penny in your pocket. But to love something despite. To know the flaws and love them too. That is rare and pure and perfect.

It's garbage. It's only 2-3, the TIE/fo only has a 2-die primary. And you have to have focus + TL in an edition where action economy is much harder to get, which means you've already set up a pretty good shot and you're paying to turn "probably 2-3 hits" into "certainly 2-3 crits". That wasn't a good deal in 1.0 when you could take PTL and do it every turn, it's a terrible deal in 2.0 where you're probably having to spend a turn firing unmodified dice to bank the TL for a real shot on the following turn.

It's not garbage. It could be pretty good along with an Upsilon, and that card that gives them a focus to start with. And TLs are 'easier' to keep around in 2.0 Being a 4 kinda stinks though.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

Omega Ace was tough to get his pilot ability off in 1st edition. Its still very very hard in 2nd, for only a little payoff. You have to acquire a target lock AND a Focus token, and you lose both tokens to do it.

Maybe if he had a linked action for focus>target lock it might be good.

Thats not to say he's bad, point dependent of course, but his ability is a tough one to proc.

No, it absolutely is garbage. Abilities that convert hits to crits are of marginal value at best, so you're only getting meaningful value out of the ability when spending a TL + focus would still leave you with blanks. In expected value terms, going from normal TL + focus to automatic hits adds 0.0625 damage per die, or 0.125-0.1875 total damage (depending on range). Contrast that with "Scorch" where you're adding 0.75 damage per turn (assuming you take a focus), or 1.5 over the two turns "Static" has to spend to bank a TL and set up the shot. IOW, "Scorch" is adding ten times the additional damage over those two turns. Crits do have non-zero value over hits, but nowhere near enough to make up for that kind of disparity in total hits.

And no, the Upsilon does not fix this problem at all. Adding a focus to the shuttle's own 4-die gun is way more valuable than using a coordinate to improve a 2-die ship's attack. Which is the reason why you rarely saw it as a coordinate platform in 1.0, its own action is too valuable to be worth giving to all but the most expensive ships (and Kylo had much better wingmen). Coordinate ships need to be cheaper than the ship they're buffing (Fenn in Ghost/Fenn, for example) and the super-shuttle almost never will.

But it's not hits to crit is it? It looks like any result becomes a crit, misses included.

Right, but the point is that you can break it down into two components: turning all results (including blank results) into "successes" and then turning those results from hits to crits. The first part is worth ~10% of Scorch's pilot ability (primarily because once you have a target lock and focus token you have a near-100% hit rate already), the second is generally considered to be a mechanic that is of very limited value. Add the two components together and you have a very weak ability.
