Hey guys I'm looking to add to my SW soon, I currently have

30 GHs - 6 Plasma, 3 PFs
2 Rhinos
3 Thunderwolf
5 Termies
5 Wolf scouts - ML, 4 Snipers
Ulrik
Rune Priest

I understand most of this might be pretty trash, but I'm not a competitive player its just friends so I don't mind. It is mainly because it looks great, I know termies are terrible! But again, wolf guard termies are crazy cool.

However, I would like suggestions on stuff that you guys think its good for these fellas.

I like the look of Harold Deathwing, but with my painting scheme being Ragnar Blackmanes company, it wouldn't please me to ruin the theme(stupid I know).

I have heard that dreadnoughts are hit and miss, but Murderfang looks pretty cool and believe he has mixed views?, and the model is awesome. But is there anything I don't have that I will need going up in points.

I also read that murderfang has re-rollable 8" charge?.. which didnt make any sense to me, unless I have got the wrong end of the stick.

Murderfang has a re-rollable charge and 8” movement.
He still sucks though, he doesn’t have a good save against anything with AP and he doesn’t have enough attacks to ravage horde units.

My next purchase in your shoes would be a Start Collecting! Space Wolves set, ten Grey Hunters, three Thunderwolf Cavalry and a Captain.
Kit Bash Harold - Shield, Axe, beard, holstered Bolt Pistol, something troll skin-ish and a Thunderwolf Mount (if you’re feeling clever chop the stability vents off his backpack and the wolf heads off those stupid wolf headed Bolters to give him wolf head stabilisers.

Kit Bash Canis Wolfborn - Terminator Claws if you still have a pair left over, regular if you don’t, wild hair.

Make a pack of optional Blood Claws/Grey Hunters.

Make a Rune Priest out of the Captain.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

More TWC since three of them are useless, unless you play them as Wolf Lords. I'd also suggest Long Fangs and the Stormfang Gunship.

Get some Wulfens. They are one of the best cc units in Imperium for their points. Great balance between their mobility, durability and killy power.

well if you like the look of Harold, just run him as s normal thunderwolf wolf lord

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Steadfast Grey Hunter

Well, if you want themed sw, why only 3 gray hunter units have power fists? Give power axes to the other 3.
Add a unit of wolf guards with jump packs with stormbolter/ccw, a pack or two wolf fangs with lascannons (your list do not have AT weapons currently).
Wolf lord/wgbl and wolf prist will be a nice addition too.

If you want to stick to the theme - playing Ragnar's company you desperately need some Blood Claws (and/or Sky Claws and/or Swift Claws; YMMV). And they're great assuming you get to charge them in.

A 5-man squad of Blood Claws (assuming Pack Leader is armed with a Power Fist) throws out 16 Chain sword and 3 Power Fist attacks on the charge. For only 77 points! Coupled with either nearby Wulfen or a character with the Wulfen Stone relic is even better.

Put them in a Storm Wolf with a squad of Wulfen with a few TH/SS and Frost Claws, and maybe a Wolf Priest, makes them one of the hardest hitting combo's / distraction Carnifexes in the game, imo.

Thanks for the suggestions guys!!

Plenty of great Ideas, I went ahead and grabbed Bjorn and anothe set of thunderwolves for canis, harold and another thunderwolf.

I think I am going to look to a gang of blood claws next as Clinto suggested with a gang of blood claws.

Think it is also an Idea, to go ahead and grab myself another set of GH's to make some wolf guard and Wolf priests and battle leaders.

So far I have added Bjorn, Canis and Harold + another thunderwolf to my army.

It has taken me up to 2k, but of course could only field a decent 1000pt army. Given my friends cannot field a decent 1000pt army. I am tempted to start a new project after christmas. But will add some long fangs for sure.

By start a new project I mean, put the wolves on hold whilst I wait for my buddies to catch up.

Are land raiders pretty naff now? Given termies are naff.

Was tempted to grab two Razorbacks and a squad of long fangs, then maybe 15 bloodclaws. And put a hold on my space wolves..

Don't be worried about not spoiling your theme being a problem. You're playing SW. You are ALL about theme. It just so happens your theme is fething bangin'...

Also...

Grab one of those SW flyers to bulk out your force. It's a fun model and looks like a joy to paint. All your dudes are infantry, go big grab a flyer.

Well when you put it like that! That flyer is cool, I planned on picking one up at some point. I feel like I am missing models on the table though, which is why I thought land raider may of been a good option.

The problem is, games workshop have released to many brilliant models!

Hey Fellas, I am interested in giving myself the possibility of using the 9cp detachment. I am mainly lacking Heavy Support options, and I am assuming it will be suggested to have 3 squads of Long Fangs.

I am going to repost my current models just incase anyone has any input. I will say that I do not want anymore troop options, given the current state of the game, power armour is shoddy and I am not able to field the troops I have without feeling like it is being wasted.

30 GHs - 6 Plasma, 3 PFs
2 Rhinos
1 Land Speeder Storm
5 Thunderwolf
5 Termies (No SS apart from leader)
10 Wolf scouts - 2 ML, 4 Snipers, 4 Shotgunners.
5 Long Fangs - 2 ML, 2 LC
Land Speeder - Thunder missiles(Cant remember the name, I also plan on getting two more to have a 3 man unit, these things are good fun)
5 Fenrisian Wolves
5 Wulfen - TH/SS x4
Venerable Dread - Fenrisian Great Axe.
Bjorn Fell Handed
Harald Deathwolf
Ulrik
Rune Priest

You need Wulfen, possibly a Stormwolf too!

If you want to do a brigade you should get 2 whirlwinds, they are the cheapest option. Otherwise you will struggle to fit it into 2000 points. And with the CA points drop they are actually decent for casual games.

PS: brigade is 12 CPs now, not 9

Land Raiders came down around 20% in Chapter Approved so are better but still not great. Their real problem is that they pay for both their firepower and transport capability and it is hard to get value out of both at the same time. Also the meta is currently structured to be able to take down Imperial Knights. Given that these are roughly twice as durable as Land Raiders, Raiders just tend to melt and provide your opponent with a priority target.

Flyers have similar levels of firepower and transport capability and combine it with a -1 to-Hit for going supersonic. Also, flyers do not lose their next turn of shooting if they get charged by a handful of Grots in melee which is one of the biggest weaknesses of non-Flying tanks.

A mix of razorbacks and flyers will usually perform better for the points than Land Raiders alas.

Long Fangs on the other hand rock! They are what Space Marine Devastators wish they could be.
