Hey all
I have a game coming up with me and a newbie vs two power players 750+750 vs 750+750. I plan on rolling out my Knights but don't have much experience with them. My list is an Errant and two Helverins. My newbie partner will play marines or my guard. The other side will be Riptide Tau and Jetbike Custodes.

What I want to do is turn my Errant into even more of a tanking unit that I throw at the other side while the rest of our guys do all the objective grabbing etc.
So far I have Armour of Sainted Ion for the 2+ save and Ion Bulwark for the 4++ which I will bump to 3++ each turn with Rotate Ion Shields.

My problem is mortal wounds and deciding which house hold to go to bump survivability further. So far I am looking at House Hawkshroud with Oathkeepers but wanted to see what people on here think.

By the way, yes I will be TFG for this game but you know...

If you are only concerned with durability relics, I would say Sanctuary is going to get you more mileage than Sainted Ion. Sanctuary is going to cover you from Thunder Hammers a bit better since you *can* Rotate Ion Shields in the close combat phase and take a 4++ vs those Custode bikers. Most Custodes are going to be rocking AP-3 in melee anyway, and those are your big threat.

I also don't know how married you are to the Errant. I feel like you would get more mileage out of something like a Warden. The Avenger gun is more well rounded than the Thermal Cannon, and you can still mulch heavy things in cqc with a fist or a sword.

eh, your mileage may vary.

There are AP-2 weapons in the Custodes Arsenal.

Axes and their power knife.

Plus, Sainted Ion protects a lot more against shooting.

Sanctuary is better choice if run into the real big bad like Magnus, Mortarion, Skarbrand, Nidz Bio-Titan, Titanic Daemon Lords, another IK with Fist, or Guilliman buffed by Might of Hero psychic power, multiple squads of 20 strong Genestealers backed by a Broodlord. However, against all but the last 2, your Knights are prtty much dead anyway regardless how you arm them.

The armor os better against basically everything with an AP up to -3 in shooting and combat. You basically do not need to rotate ion shield should you face AP-1 if you give it the 4++ WT, or AP-1 and AP-2 if you didn't give it that WT. The armor offers the same level of protection.

Yeah the armour and ion bulwark suffer from diminishing returns. It's inefficient to use both.

For survivability use house Tanaris.

Also, don't go forward against custodes bikes! I really cannot stress this point enough. You'll be throwing your knight away for no reason whatsoever and doing your opponent a favour by accelerating his guys towards your IG and Helverins, thanks to the bonus charge move, pile in and consolidate.

Crucial to playing knights well is knowing when to stand back and shoot, rather than zerg blindly forwards. This is one of those times. Leave the knight in your deployment zone until the bikes come forward. Then shoot them up and charge them.

Don't ever walk forwards and let them charge you. You've got a 36" range gun. Use it.
