Kinda long, always had a gripe with the necrons not using time dilation to bypass 60 million years, addressed that in my dynasty.

The Thothma'Aht (Yep based on egyptian mythology) was a smaller dynasty but one know for great stability. It treasured knowledge and wisdom above material goods, and was one of the most scientifically advanced dynasties in necrontyr history.

They were widely respected and sometimes resented for their dedication to knowledge, science, civilization and the advancement of the mind but there was a pragmatic reason for these: The region occupied by the small dynasty was one of the least resource abundant ones in Necrontyr space.

The Thothma'Aht dynasty was regarded as a wise, thoughtful, level headed and coolly reasoning one, one often sought after to arbitrate disputes between other dynasties when open warfare was not considered an acceptable resolution. While their judgements rarely pleased all involved none would look so foolish as to question their impartial and reasonable verdicts.

When was war called for, they made excellent advisors and strategists, with a hard won reputation for getting the maximum amount of return on every resource invested. One reason the dynasty remained forever unconquered was it was indeed a smaller and poorer one, but none could defeat it without paying far more than they would win in return. Their military sciences were as advanced as any and more than most.

The Thothma'Aht accepted biotransferrence with calm, and were perhaps the last to realize the terrible losses it brought. When the time came to strike down the C'Tan, their crypteks were foremost in creating the god shattering weapons that made it possible.

When the time for the Sleep of Aeons came, the Thotma'Aht reacted in a way perhaps only exceeded in brilliance by the Subhekhar dynasty and its audacious Hollow Sun gambit.

Looting her small region for all the wealth and resources it contained, Phaeron Ankhez-Sehnahk converted a large, dense planetoid into a vast starship large enough to contain her entire population, along with stores of resources and vast machinery of arcane and nigh on unrivaled power.

Then in perfect synchronicity the stars of the Thothma'Aht dynasty were triggered to supernova. The home star of the dynasty, in a feat of science that staggered even the minds of the Necron race, was drained of much of it's energy as it exploded, incalculable amounts of raw power were simply drawn into the barren planetoid that housed the population of the Thothma'Aht dynasty.

Moments later a invisible sphere of pure anti gravity formed behind the world, and it fell away from it, it's velocity growing by the second as the region of expanded space maintained a precise distance from it at all times.

Accelerating to eventually a mere speck below the speed of light, the Arkworld of the Thothma'Aht left the rim of the galaxy, entering into an orbit beyond the edge of the galactic disk.

(In case NDT is lurking around here, yes I know at 99.99999% c the world would not orbit the galaxy, it would be moving to fast. Assume a constant course correction was made to keep it circling the milky way.)

At the exploded region that was one the Thothma'Aht dynasty, a gigantic nebula was left behind that, by the laws of stellar evolution, would in millions of years form new stars and planets, many rich in useful elements created by the novaic deaths of multiple stars, including elements essential to Necron technology.

As the Arkworld marched the perimeter of the galaxy time passed very slowly for it, so while other necron tomb complexes suffered the ravages of sixty million years of entropy's assault, mere millennia passed onboard the Thothma'Aht Dynasty's refuge. The devoted crew of Canoptek constructs easily held decay at arm's length thru the still long voyage into the distant future.

At the estimated time the Arkworld changed it's curse and began to decelerate and head back towards the former and future area of the galaxy claimed by the necrontyr.

As it did so it's somnolent occupants were roused from their torpor, and nearly all were at hand as it made it's final approach into the region of star systems it has initiated the creation of so long ago.

Then disaster, held at bay far better than most necron dynasties managed to do, struck with a vengeance. The Arkworld was assaulted by various barbaric raiders. The young races, grown like weeds during the aeons, haf noted the wealthy contained in the young star systems and had sought to claim it. Imperial, ork and Eldar all assaulted the small dynasty's world as it sought to reap what it had sown.

The Thothma'Aht dynasty may have died soon after it's return had a figure from their past not made a sudden move to aid them. The silent king and his forces appeared at the struggling Dynasty's side and helped them at first fend off, then drive back the scourge of the younger races . He asked nothing in return for his aid, saying he had lead his people to disaster and now sought to make amends for his terrible mistakes,

He did tell the wise and strong Phaeron Ankhez-Sehnahk many things, perhaps least of which was the encroaching tyranid threat. She offered her dynasty's aid, small tho it might be, to his cause of restoring their people. I turn he gave her a force of destroyers, cautioning her on their use and the need to keep them apart from her as yet unplagued people as much as possible. He gave her similar council on the flayed ones.

Yeah, kind along but I threw in some actual science there, and wanted a dynasty that was still fairly sane, not suffering cyber senility and whatnot.

A funny irony here is that while the dynasty was originally poor in resources, thanks to their audacious scheme to remake their home systems they are now fairly wealthy.

Nit-picking a bit, I know, but how do you explain the capacity of a Necrontyr dynasty to produce in large number celebrated scholars, scientists and generals if their territory was small and poor? A small and poor dynasty has a limited capacity to produce a large quantity of scholars let alone in numerous fields compared to larger ones.

They were smaller and poorer than the big, major dynasties like the ones listed in the codex, the big ones like the Sautekh or even the charnokov. They were not destitute . Their space had limited useful resources but they likely made income thru selling and trading in their intellectual achievements Also they used their resources wisely, valuing performance and
cost effectiveness over appearance and grandeur.

Think of a couple people building home PCs. One guy has a lot of money so be builds one with all sorts of RGB animated programmable lighting, lighted fans, tempered glass case, illuminated water cooling, etc. He thinks his system has to look impressive because he sees it as a status symbol. The other guy has less money but he puts it all into performance. A plainer case, minimal if any lighting effects, the most cost effective CPU and video card he can find after researching the various options. His system will be cheaper but still of very good performance.

As to producing a lot of scholars in a small, poorer dynasty it depends on what the dynasty culture emphasizes as values. Education and study was rewarded and the most intelligent and scholarly likely encouraged to breed. Look at earth today. A lot of poorer countries place education and producing well educated, intelligent, skilled engineers and technical workers as a high priority while some wealthy countries treat education like a minor issue.

I edited my original post to make it look less like the dynasty was destitute and more like it just wasn't nearly as rich as many others.

Again, I like necrons (hey you have to like necrons to play them as badly as they got hosed.) but really, their great idea was to dig a bunch of holes, build bunkers, climb in, lock the doors, set the alarm clock, go to sleep and hope nothing goes wrong for 60 million freaking' years?!?!

I know why GW did their background the way they did, I get the reasons, like the necrons were an ancient undead horror in line with the tomb kings in WFB, and making them wake up damage, decayed and weakened kept them from just eating the 40k galaxy for breakfast like they logically should have.

Still, part of me is like NDT here. I mean, they had to know about time dilation, they were traveling the galaxy in slower than light torchships, none of them thought about using it to fast forward thru the 60 million year interval the silent king decreed?

So that's how my dynasty rolled. And they still got hammered anyway by circumstances not entirely forseeable or within their control but that in a way they did create.

First and foremost, Marry Christmas and seasons greeting from your neighboring Tomb World.

Besides that, I can't say I've read your dynasty completely but I'm almost done.

That said, some ideas sprang to mind in a sudden fit of inspiration that I feel compelled to share with you. These ideas concern Necron dynasty building and the like.

1. First off, there's no need to be so modest. Describe to the reader about a very 40K-esque Necron dynasty; detail a grandiose scale of undead mechanical horrors, deranged alien lords acting on whims we humans couldn't comprehend.

For instance, maybe you have a court of Necron lords, cryptxs who value their Necron minios/armies. They could be predominantly raiders hoarding vast quantities of sentient life to experiment on, maybe even fuse their dear soldiery with said life in a vein attempt to breath consciousness into them.

2. Use an idea I'm going with for my Destroyer Cult. Basically they're Necrom supremacists who wage war not for the sake of killing but for the species. They're wars are for glory, homor and madness. Like one Destroyer Lord will decorate and hold bizarre celebrations for ordinary Necron Warriors because they've performed 'exceptional' if that makes sense.

3. Wealth and resources aren't an issue for Necrons. They fought a war that lasted for millions of years. For something of that scale it's safe to say their numbers were easily in the trillions. So up your scale and innovate with your dynasty.

Now... I must get back to my job.

Have a good day and I'll drop a critique when I finish.
