I've more or less completed my dark elf army, and am considering another fantasy force.
Ideally it'd be different in playstyle to the DE and preferably fairly quick to paint.
I was originally thinking chaos undivided or ogres.

Any thoughts or opinions?

Quick to paint means Lizardmen. They are by far the easiest army to paint, especially if you use the dark pastel technique.

Dark pastel:
Undercoat in white only
Mix your paint on your pallet - one part of your preferred colour, one part black, one to two parts water dependant on the thickness of the paint.
Paint over the white undercoat.

How it works
You MUST use a white primer only with this technique. The paint is heavily diluted being a thicker version of ink wash rather than paint. This dilutes the paint to give a watercolour effect, hence 'pastel'. the one part black counteracts the thinning of the paint by darking the pigment hence 'dark pastel'. This technique works better on some job than others. One of the best applications is for painting scaly skin because the gaps between the scale are naturally accentuated by this method. One coat of dark pastel technique is enough to paint highlight ansd shade a lizardman or a dragon or similar creature in one easy step.

Limitations of dark pastel.
While it can be used for any work it is better at some things than others. I recommend you paint ther weapons normally.
This technique doesnt work with very light colours directly. Instead of mixing a colour with black choose a slightly darker colour.
This technique doesnt work well with yellow, but conversely it provides a very strong red, which is normally a difficult colour to do.

With this technique you can paint a Lizardman army in a couple of days.

Whether Lizardmen are for you I cannot says, but they play very differently to Dark Elves being a resilient army. They are also hostile near neighbours. Lizardmen have more direct cause to fight Dark Elves and Skaven than all the rest of the factions put together.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

I just used a ton of inks straight up for my lizards, took no time at all. I really enjoyed painting them. Gotta do empire now, but not looking forward to it lol.

Vampires are pretty quick to paint as well, depending on what units you take

Vampire Counts 12,000 pts Tomb Kings 5,000 pts
Skaven 9,500 pts Ogre Kingdoms 7,000 pts
High Elves 8,800 pts
Bretonnia 8,000 pts
Empire 7,500 pts Lizardmen 6,000 pts
Dwarfs 10,000 pts Chaos 18,500 pts
Wood Elves 10,000 pts Dark Elves 7,000 pts
Orcs and Goblins 9,500 pts Dogs of War 5,000 pts.

Orcs and Goblins are another option. You can go along way with them, with skin green, armor metal, hides brown, weapons metal, ink everything, light touch of green again to highlight.

If you want easy to paint Warriors of Chaos or Daemons are all dry brushing. Forge World Chaos Dwarfs are real easy to paint, expensive but real easy.

It's time to go full Skeletor

Dwarfs maybe? They're mostly silver armor with gold detailing.

Ogres otherwise would be easy too.

However, I always go back to what do you LIKE to paint or what army do you feel a bit more connection to?

Example: Ogres are easy to paint, but I don't really like their fluff or what not, so I would never do that.

See which army you like the most, and go for that, easy to paint or not!

Ogre's fluff is great "we're fat! Food!" lol Big, brutish, and obese. I had a big laugh reading their book.

Skaven 9,500 pts Ogre Kingdoms 7,000 pts
High Elves 8,800 pts

Ogres are not quick to paint, not if you want to get their flab looking right.

Warriors of Chaos can be simple, if you forgo marauders. Daemons and Vampire Counts too, so long as you are careful what you take, at least at first.

I think ogres would be fairly easy to paint, I can reasonably airbrush the flesh and the metallics separately, then do the details and assemble, similarly with the marauders, the flesh can be airbrushed in for the smooth finish and the metalllics can be tackled afterwards. Chaos are fairly similar in that regard, warriors can be done almost wholly with the airbrush as they are all armour and cloaks.

I'm leaning more towards Chaos at the moment, as the dragon ogres, shaggoths and the jugger-lord appeal quite a lot both as painting projects and gaming pieces. Also, the everchosen exists and is a fantastic centrepiece.

If I base my dark elves correctly, I can match them to the chaos and do 'The northern watchtowers' themed forces.

I've invested in some Warriors of Chaos, the current aim is to acquire and build the following:
A Sorcerer on foot
A BSB on foot
An Exalted Hero on a Juggernaut
20 Marauders
10 Warhounds
18 Warriors w/ Shields
18 Warriors w/ Shields and Halberds
10 Horsemen with flails
10 Knights
6 Dragon Ogres
5 Skullcrushers
A Gorebeast Chariot

I feel that is an interesting list that is also similar to my WoC in TWWH

Nice, I'm finding my Chaos Mortals pretty easy and quick to paint, especially since I'm going with black for them. I'll post some pics when I finish the army's paint in the next couple weeks.

I've loved what I've done so far, they're just nice chunky models to paint.
