How do?

Earlier today, Warhammer Community confirmed that Conquest is to be released in Spain, making it the second territory to be offered this really quite knock-out series.

I’ve been subscribed since the beginning, and to date I’m yet to have an issue which didn’t offer at least a small saving over GW’s RRP (though some would’ve been cheaper buying through a discount FLGS).

And overall, it’s proving really quite popular. They had a full inventory restock this morning, and already the Primaris Librarian (spectacular saving at £7.99 for a £22.50 model), and Aggressors (Easy to Build version) have sold out.

We also know that GW had an advert, immediately prior to Conquest’s initial trial run, for someone to head up Partworks. Which suggests they may be looking to do more, either with Hachette or another company, such as DeAgostini. I’d say there’s a slim chance of it being a view to total in-house production, as that would require GW to do the marketing themselves, as opposed to sacking it off to a partner that already has serious market exposure in Newsagents and that.

But whichever way that Cookie crumbles, there’s a strong suggestion that Conquest is just the tip of the iceberg. And one need only look at the Conquest Contents to understand why. Barring Lieutenant Calsius, it’s all existing models. All of it. So actual production costs are pretty modest, compared to say, a new Codex or Army Book, as they’re not having to create new models for it.

I’d be very surprised if we don’t see an Age of Sigmar version in the next year or two. That just makes sense, given how Conquest has flown off the shelves. Whether that’d be Stormcast vs Ghosties or Psycho Raving Lunatics With Skull Fetish I’m not sure. Not the Stormcast bit. I’ll eat something very unpleasant (such as a Cauliflower and Natto Sandwich on a 12 year old roll, made from bogies, that’s expressed a fondness for Katie Hopkins) if Stormcast aren’t the good guys in such a product, because of course they will be! Probably with some new fangled sculpt in place of Calsius.

But what else might this mean? Armies by subscription? Specialist Games getting the same treatment? Maybe a whole new ‘collect each of 80 weekly parts’ game, designed specifically for Partworks? Because, man, Warhammer Quest could be a viable candidate for that. Possibly. I’ve not entirely thought that through, because I’m just speculating.

What do you reckon, Dakka? What do you see in the fyootcha here? Other than continued international release, natch.

I'd wonder if they might try LoTR again?

They clearly want to re-invigorate it in terms of getting it played (and of course sold), they're re-releasing stuff, redoing books, have a shiney new product manager just for LoTR

another partworks would fit right in, and it's all stuff that paid off the mould costs long ago

think a sigmar one is very likely, not sure on LotR as they may need to pay extra license fees for it so likely prefer not to distract from the main two games - if there was another film maybe though.

can certainly see another 40k one, guessing these will run one after the other and GW move to a point where there is always one 'live'

I'm fundamentally against subscription services because you generally have to sign up to receive stuff you don't want (like PP's minicrates - they haven't all been winners).

Despite being a fairly good introductory offer for new 40k players, at 80 issues, it feels like it is spreading the content out too much. After the first couple issues, you won't want to wait two more years to get a specific unit or paint pot. Going by the YouTube videos, it takes several weeks before they even introduce most of the game's rules. So you just sit on these miniatures for a while, waiting to learn how to charge?

Not sure who Conquest's target audience is, but I'd rather just buy a Dark Imperium + First Strike, and some sort of starter paint set.

Think the target market for Conquest is people who have never played 40k before, indeed likely never played any table top game before.

the way they are introducing the rules is very gradual but assumes literally zero knowledge of gaming, ditto the paint guides are very much ground up stuff (would be better with more 360 degree type photos of the models, e.g. the first few issues you didn't see a close up of the back of any of them)

if you know about the game then the more usual starter is going to get you going a lot faster

The structure, for an absolute NooB, actually works quite nicely.

I dunno if you’ve seen pics of the content, but it’s all based on what you’d have to hand if you’re a subscriber. And when it introduces the Washes, you get a guide on how to tart up the previous models.

For things such as School Clubs, the funding issue aside, this is quite a decent resource.

I mean, it’s not cheap. 80 weekly issues at £7.99 is still a significant sum. But when it’s £32 a month? That is more palatable.

So far, the target audience also includes me, as an add-on buyer. The price point is key, and plays nicely into my low priority / wouldn't it be nice / feed the plastic crack addiction balance.

Example: last week I bought 1 foul blightspawn (?) Can't imagine I'd need more than one but haven't checked. Looked up GW site - £15. Bought the magazine in WHSmiths for £8. Built same day and lobbed into the painting mountain for my 40k chaos army. This week? Armoured crates... £30 from GW.. yeah someday maybe.... £8 each? bought 4.... 20% discount (in my head). Haven't seen a "bad" deal yet and have bought stuff I wouldn't have bought in store.

As to the original question, I seem to recall a comment here somewhere that someone said that GW had AoS version in mind, given that subscriptions had already paid for the production run. Then again, perhaps it was the same guy who sold me London Bridge in the pub last night....

The target audience I think is actually quite broad. People like myself who already have marines and deathguard are buying them up to add stuff cheap. Like Stroller said, do I need more Blight Haulers? Nope, do I want more? Sure, at £7.99 each.

If it wasn'ty for Conquest, I would never have ended up with a Primaris Librarian in my collection. Looking forward to my £7.99 Chaplain and Apothecary as well!

I hope they do an AoS one. I haven't been interested in it hitherto but I like the idea of a slow grow collection over a number of months. Something like that for AoS would interest me.

This, I would certainly go for an AoS one, not even two bothered which two factions it was, though golden boys v chaos is most likely, I could live with that.

Especially given the nice gradual way they are showing the rules etc

If it was like the current Conquest, it would be mostly the easy build models from the 2.0 launch - Stormcasts and Nighthaunt.

For me it's a way to slowly gather two additional forces, I subscribe through my local newsagent so can cancel with one issue notice. I already had the start of a primaris force through Wake the Dead/Tooth and claw.

AoS also has the added fun of Path To Glory existing.

It's a cracking way to introduce peeps at the best of times (very few models, and therefore purchases required). To link it to a partwork could be even better, as it spreads that cost.

And pushing PTG first? If you've a mate that interested in the game, but not necessarily the partwork forces (maybe they really want to do Deepkin, for example), it's still not too difficult for them to pile in at that stage.

With the right forces, I'd be up for an AoS version.

Stormcast I could use, especially the female torsos.

Chaos would work for conversions and with little effort and a few bits, be 40ked.

Nighthaunt would need more thought. I'm sure I could come up with some background for them as a xenos.

Based on that, my preference would be Stormcast and Chaos, but the present set is with Nighthaunt, so at this time, that is what it would be.

Stormcast Vs Nighthaunt is almost certainly what we'd see - unless there's a Version 3 boxed set out between now and AoS Conquest (Realm Quest? I dunno!).

Would likely be a nice way to get a cheaper Black Coach. Gorgeous model, and if you disagree you're objectively wrong. But man. That price. It's eye-watering!

I wish I didn't miss out on starting conquest from the beginning, it looks like a lot of fun even though I don't play either of the armies. Having seen the wishlisting of an AoS analogue, I'd be all in on that if it was Stormcasts Vs Nighthaunts, I love the nighthaunt models and no one plays the game in my area so I could definitely see some Blanchistu styled nighthaunts with some mechanicus bits strapped on.

Wonder if this could be applied to a Dungeon Crawl?

New scenario every other week, new tiles, gribblies and adventurers?

First issue with thinner card stock tiles, so you can play more or less straight away? Occasional part for a Big Bad Gribbly for the end game to hook people into Subscribing?
