I’m looking at making myself a squad of Corsair Skyreavers, and I’m getting round to ordering parts. Essentially it’s going to be a box of guardians, with Sigmar Elf and Drukhari kabalite heads and weapons, but I’m also looking at some Reaper miniatures Pirates to get some headgear variation. Problem is, most Pirate models have beards, and I’ve never seen an Eldar that would use a Gillette. Is it in the Lore anywhere that the Aeldari can’t grow beards?

Paint scheme is going to be crimson and gold, because I like the look of the Custodes vehicle paint jobs. With possibly red and white striped trousers to look piratey (I cant really use black and white as my Harlequins are frozen Star). There are going to be bottles of rum, cutlasses, eyepatches, bandannas, treasure maps and maybe a wooden leg...

GW missed a trick calling them Corsairs though, I’m going to call them Eldarrrrr.

Hmm, I have to admit this is one hell of a good question.

Elves in the old Warhammer Fantasy world could grow beards (famously, Mallus Darkblade's father), though they usually didn't. And 40K Eldar were originally envisioned as the same exact species. So, maybe?

Personally, I'd prefer it if they couldn't. Eldar are aliens who evolved entirely separately from humans, not just humans with pointy ears. The more unlike humans they are biologically, the better IMO.

Well they're "your dudes," so I guess they can grow whatever you want them to. That doesn't mean that J.R.R. Tolkien won't spin in his grave if you do, though.

I think I'll have to go with NO BEARD rules on these guys. Reaver miniatures do some pretty good looking Female Pirate models from the look of Ebay, so I'll have a look at decapitating those...

They probably can't, but nothing stops them beating up and ork, stealing his mohawk squig and sticking it on their face

(technically orks don't have hair, but they have squigs that look like hair)

I would say they are able, but choose not to more as a result of it's seen as barbaric and something the lesser races would do. Though they are incapable of body hair.

If you choose to I would say a well manicured goatee/moustache would likely be their style.

Sure they can, but because they can live thousands of years, it takes approximately 92 years to grow a goatee and they get tired of it and shave it before it becomes noticeable.

Sort of like pubescent teenage boys... or Asians.

If in doubt of its biological possibility, just say a Haemonculus did it. Depending on how your Eldarrrr get along with the Haemonculi, they can grow hair, beards, feathers, bat wings, bony fleshy growths and whatever else they can dream up. So long as they are willing to pay for it.

Great answers all, thanks. I’m away from home at the moment and I’m ordering parts for this project on eBay. Not home until after Christmas so the wait to get started is killing me!

I now have a mental image of an unlucky archon whose friendly neighbourhood haemonculus has a sense of humour. Every time the archon dies and gets brought back, he gets another 'experimental' feature, like little bat-wing ears, or skin that turns neon-green when he's angry, or a head that can turn 360° like an owl's. And the poor archon can't do anything about it, because no other haemonculus will deal with him anymore (because they're all in on the joke).

I think that the only acceptable beard an Eldar can grow is this...
Corresponding eyebrows are mandatory.

Spoiler:

Neutran Panzergrenadiers, Ostrakan Skitarii Legions, Order of the Silver Hand
My fan-lore: Europan Planetary federation. Hot topic: Help with Minotaurs chapter Killteam
