Update? or a new game similar to Kill team?

I fully expect GW to release an updated Skirmish game the same as they've done for Killteam. Ergo a game that requires few models or even just one box of models from a chosen army. Then use that as a springboard game to entice people into the full game; whilst also giving long term players a side game that's faster to play than a full game for in-fill and alternative use for their models.

That said I didn't expect to see them release new skirmish until aftre they'd updated more of the Battletomes. It would seem too soon for GW to push out revised skirmish rules and that approach to AoS when there are huge gaps in the army structure.

Skaven, for example, have one battletome that covers only a portion of their forces; whilst Order has a huge mess of Aelves all over the place.

I would have thought they'd have releasd updated skirmish in the Q3/4 of 2019 after having a heavy year of Battletome releases much like 2018 has been very heavy on 40K Codex releases

There is literally nothing I want more from this hobby than an Age of Sigmar Kill Team (or something similar). Skirmish was a poor half measure at best, while Kill Team is great - but I really like Age of Sigmar's setting more than 40k (blasphemer!) That said, I don't think AoS can go as terrain heavy as Kill Team just because there is less terrain to go around, and the different killzones and team-included terrain bits are a huge part of the appeal of Kill Team to me.

If it is like Kill Team, the profiles are separate altogether from codices/battletomes.

Yes but marketing wise Kill Team is clearly designed to entice people in by offering them a 40K product that is (by this hobby standards) cheap. So its 1 box of models and a rule book. Or one themed box of models with cards and terrain and a rule book. Once hooked they can expand with another single box of troops or add a commander. Now they are already well on their way to 500 points and trying out the 40K game.

Skirmish would be the same. Yes experienced people would play it too because its new, different, offers something alternative and also is quicker than a full game. But the prime market is the new gamer.

As for terrain It can go as heavy as 40K has with Killteam. I see no reason why it can't save that GW doesn't make "as much" but its hardly like the market isn't already heavily saturated with 3rd party options not to mention home-made stuff.

With AoS there are already 8 "Kill Zones" described in the core rules - While I expect they'd do Environment epxansions, you could also in theory use the same terrain but make it an Aqshy Kill Zone or Ghyr or whatever very easily; the relative lack of different terrain for AoS isn't a hindrance. It would provide an impetus to re-release more of the old Warhammer terrain sets like the Empire buildings and suchlike, though.

I would very much like to see a sigmar kill team equivalent.
Skirmish as it is offers a lot more unit variety than KT currently does.

My only worry would be having a lot less choices than we currently have.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

I just don't feel like AoS has anything like Sector Imperialis or Sector Mechanicus - large modular terrain sets that can produce outstanding boards. Maybe the Chaos Dreadhold, but you need a lot of it. But they could do killzones for sylvaneth woods, azyrite townscape, dreadhold, maybe ruins (Ophidian Archway, Realmgates, Numinous Occulum), the graveyard, arcane ruins, maybe even the Warscryer Citadel or older kits yet to be reprinted - there's enough there, I guess. I'd really love to see it too.

(I think GW is working on new terrain themes, with the Derelict Factorum and Azyrite Townscape being previews of full modular kits yet to come).

As far as skirmish teams go, I feel like they could just give rules to the Warhammer Underworlds teams rather than building unit boxes - they fit perfectly in a skirmish setting, but they are already the cheapest things GW produces and it could conflict with WU to sell the same kit in two different game systems.

I think they could go Kill Team with AoS, and man I'd love to see it happen, but I sort of feel like it won't be a new product line and just another pamphlet upgraded for AoS 2.0.

I'm sure if this was some big new thing, they wouldn't have just casually mentioned it being in the next White Dwarf before mentioning it anywhere else. Probably just a version 2.0 of the skirmish book.

I would love if it were a new version of Mordheim, but set in Shadespire. I doubt that is what it would be, but I have long hoped for such a development.

Have they announced anything for 2019 yet? We know some things are coming, like Moonclan, but I don’t think they’ve announced any actual products for the new year. It’s about time for AoS to get a major release (last one was 2.0). That being said, January is probably not the best month to launch a new product line (those seem to happen Jun-Jul mostly), so it probably is just a supplement... unless Jun-Jul 2019 has an even bigger release planned.

Couldn’t they use the shadespire boxed groups as the basis for the skirmish game and maybe start releasing a second shadespire type box for each released group to expand the gangs into a larger skirmish force? Take the skaven box and release a skaven box 2 with a rat ogre a pack master and a few other clan moulder guys so the two could fit together as a skirmish force.

I knew about this for awhile. Didn’t expect it to be announced so soon. From what I’ve heard, a detailed rule set like Kill Team, but with more of a focus on campaigns.

It would be nice to see something like Kill Team for AoS. I am interested in fantasy skirmish gaming, but not if it's the amalgam of rules material I need to gather together for current half-effort Skirmish. I will never play full army-scale games again, due to time constraints, but the ease of collecting multiple warbands is half the fun of skirmish games!

Currently I have been playing Indie games with GW models, but a game with an easy all-in-one entry (and an official GW product would also be needed to ever actually be played at my local game store by other people) would be very tempting. Near me it's either full on AoS, or Path to Glory as a gateway to full armies. A game where I could hit the table with just a handful of Skaven or Stormcast would be great!

Ideally, I'd like to see them take the concept of Paths of Glory, and boil it down to individual figures joining up rather than whole units.

If they kept the concept of follower pools I think it could work if you were just getting one or two guys instead of an entire 5- 10 man unit. What would be really sweet would be allowing your hero to rank up to some of the big centerpiece type models.

Doubtful as to how well that would work as all sense of balance is gone you start bringing major models to the table...

The WD Path to Glory had followers join you in small groups, tiny groups or single models (e.g. knight, mino). I was quite shocked when the AoS version of the "small scale" slow growth campaign had you add wrathmonger units and dragon ogres

A good Skirmish would be ace, but honestly, I'd need opponents more than new rules. Official rules help, of course, but so far I had zero Skirmish OR Hinterlands games :(

The nature of the announcement does not fill me with confidence about this. If this was a major overhaul like kill team, we would have heard about it at one of the recent preview events.
I would absolutely love to see a fully supported skirmish game for AOS, with a full dedicated rulebook and a range of modular scenery.
Skirmish is so badly balanced it is quite literally a joke in parts of the community. The recent AOS ruins kit is kind of ok but it pales in comparison to the modular 40k stuff. AOS as a whole badly needs a range of decent scenery. Without it, I don’t see a skirmish game being a success.
I really hope this is not just a slightly improved version of the old pamphlet, but the throw away white dwarf announcement has me worried.

Yeah, I NEED a quality skirmish ruleset for my AoS figures. I could easily have awesome, fun games all day long using GW models with the rulesets from One Page Rules for Age of Sigmar or 40k, with either of their rulesets for army-level or as skirmish games. For free, even!

But if it's not a ruleset produced by GW, my GW models will never be played at the local game stores, as no matter how fun an Indie ruleset might be, they are never going to be seen as legitimate. I can't even see Hinterlands ever being played, and that uses official AoS rules at it's basis, because it would be seen as 'Not actual GW material'.

I want a good ruleset where I can paint small forces around my parental duties and still find a game at my local stores.

How about GW and AoS fans stick with Skirmish and Path to Glory and Shadespire and leave Mordheim the hell alone unless it's going to be done properly like the other revived Specialist Games, ie with the original setting.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?

Underworlds is limited, its board game roots simply put some limit on it. Skirmish with a campaign and slow unlock skills or carriers would fulfil other desire that Underworlds simply cannot.

I'll see what they'll publish and in what deals they'll offer it, don't want to get my hopes up.
