So I'm writing a story in which a bunch of Blood Angel successors fight some Khornates alongside a bunch of SOB. Over the course of the campaign, the protagonist (an ex-watch captain now in charge of a company of flesh tearers he actually hates) comes to rely on the SOB more and more, because while they're not nearly as effective as space marines they at least follow orders, unlike the blood angels and flesh tearers who due to the circumstances of the campaign are more intent on listening to the red thirst than their commanders.

I was wondering if Dante would also come to rely on more dependable troops over his more elite ones, or if Dante had some previous experience fighting alongside SOB which has soured him to them.

SOB are usually portrayed as so zealous they let the bigger tactical picture get away from them from time to time. SOB probably aren't the best portrayal of "reliable" troops. If you want "reliable" troops go with stormtroopers or a veteran guard detachment.

Dante fought alongside the SOB very recently, during the Shield of Baal, and there seemed to be mutual respect. It is important to point out though, that the problems you're referring to would be far more rare with the Blood Angels themselves. The Flesh Tearers and a few other successor chapters embrace the Red Thirst, the Blood Angels do not. They are (usually) highly disciplined troops, especially any who might be under the direct command of Dante himself.

Oh yeah, the plotline I'm going for is a harrowing campaign where a chaos lord with intimate knowledge of how to break the Blood Angels attacks their psychological weakpoints to bring them down to the Flesh Tearers' level. It's by no means supposed to represent a normal engagement, where the Blood Angels are able to remain noble protectors of humanity.

Yes, but Dante was the one who coordinated everything between his Blood Angels, Seth's Flesh Tearers, the Imperial Guard general and the SOB canoness. The canoness was also present aboard Dante's battle barge in the Dante novel.

You may want to avoid the usual Martyred Lady sisters (who are the flesh tearers of the sisters lineup) and go for one of the more reserved orders.

I would add there was a hint of reverence by the sisters in the novel Dante, partly because Dante is such a massive figure in the imperium, but also to the Angels themselves. This was due to Sanguinius unique position in the imperial religion. They were very respectful calling them the sons of the great Angel and being differential in general.

This doesn’t mean your sisters must be as different orders would have different opinions on many issues but it’s something to think about.

Dante has led the BA for over a millennium so he’s served with and led many types of troops. He can get the best out of whatever is available.
