Having dealth exlusivly with fantasy, sci/fi and ww1/ww2, i want to try something new, something old and historical, and the urge for a viking army has been growing for the past days.

So, any active historical game systems with its own model range that has a viking faction around?
I prefer 10-15mm but if there are no game systems in that range then 28mm is ok. dosent matter if the game is army or skirmish style.

SAGA Age of Vikings Rules or Hail Caesar - The Dark Ages, but they're both 28mm.

Saga at 28mm might also suit, not sure if tis "typical" Viking (I am and its not) but is good fun and quick to play. Warband sized and skirmish style but it plays very well, one of those quick to, learn and hard to master games.

On parle toujours mal quand on n'a rien à dire.

I do not understand. Does not compute. Error. Error.

Two questions:
1. Do you want army scale, unit vs. unit skirmish, or model-vs-model skirmish? By your preferred scale I would guess Army scale, but I want to make sure.

2. Is there a reason you want Rules and Models from one source for historical?

The good thing about historicals is that they're model manufacturer-neutral.

You can get very good 15mm vikings from Essex, Baueda, Peter Pig, Splintered light or Khurasan plus many others (last two are my fav, btw). Mix and match as you want (except PP, they're noticeable smaller than the rest).

Rules? FoG and DBMM are solid choices, you should have no problem finding opponents for them. Someone mentioned Hail Caesar, which is a great game also and since stand frontage is the only thing that matters you can transport it to 15mm as well.

Actually you can just base your vikings and play all those rulesets and find the one that you and your group fancy the most.

SAGA is a nice little skirmish game in 28mm., very cinematic. Would also try.

You could also do something like this guy did, which was Saga in 6mm:

Since you said your preferred scale in 10-15mm, if you put 4-5 miniatures on a base, that'd make for some pretty good looking units.

Just a few ranges in 15mm

Essex Miniatures 12 Vikings including a nice mounted warrior carrying off a young lady..
Gladiator Games, now sold by Fighting 15's Half-dozen Vikings and many similar figures in the Dark Ages range

Minifigs UK In their Dark Ages range
Irregular Minis 6 Vikings, sold singly
Lancashire Games 5 packs of Vikings
Tin Soldier 9 in the range
Two Dragons by Minifigs, Viking specialists - large range
Isarus 15 variants, including (unusually) some mounted
Khurasan New range
Viking Forge 9 strong range
Battle Line (NZ) former TTG Ranges, as Isarus

As the man says, 15mm is manufacturer agnostic.

But outside of 15mm, Saga is the go-to Viking game in ancients gaming.

I just purchased La Art De La Guerre and it looks like a solid rule set. I've always used Essex for all of my historicals, but that is likely a supplier issue. I think a solid viking (depends on what you mean by that )army would be a fun one to play, and paint.
