Hello, I realize this might be a bit early since the book isn't released yet, but I wasn't sure how many relics I was allowed to bring. Say I have 3 guard detachments and I've spent 3 CP to use 3 relics from the codex. If I then made each of those 3 detachments into 3 different formations, can I then get one of each of the relics that correspond to those formations giving me a total of 6 relics? I'm thinking that this is allowed since the Stratagem allowing 2 additional relics specifies relics from whatever the list is called in the codex, but I'd like to know if anyone has seen anything that says different.

Thanks

Interesting. The wording on these leaked rules is that:
If your army includes any XXX Detachments, you can give the following relic to a XXX Character from your army.

That does indeed sound like the relic from the formation is independent of the usual warlord + stratagems relics.

Within a single codex, assuming you have access to three different specialist detachments for that army (I don't think most armies have that many), it does indeed sound like you could get a maximum of 6 relics.

The current situation when you ally detachments from different codexes, and get access to the 'bonus relics' stratagem from each codex, allows you up to 7 relics if you use 3 detachments from 3 different codexes.
With these specialist detachments, I suppose you could potentially take up to 10 relics, within the standard 3 detachment limit.
1 for warlord, 6 from the stratagems in each of 3 different codexes. Then another 3 for making each of your detachments into a specialist detachment.

Maybe when the book is out we’ll know.

Aren't the Warlord traits also in addition to your normal warlord? Would make sense for both traits and relics to work the same in that regard

Yeah but you have to use the separate "Field Commander" stratagem for 1cp for each extra trait you want, so it isn't free.

As for relics, all the new relics are listed as "Heirlooms of Conquest" on the specialist detachment sheets. This is the wording used for the +relic stratagem and in the relic list, so they count as part of that list. No free relics for you!

Agree with all this. The phrase "can give" in this context means it is added to the list of relics you can use with the normal limitations.

I'm not so sure. The rules for relics in each codex uses wording like: "you may give one of the following [relics to a character in your army]". That would mean that the new relics only count towards this if they specifically say they do - which they don't, at least not on the pages I've seen. There might be something on the page that defines special detachments, though.

It isn't the most clearly worded, but I don't think anyone can say with certainty that it definitely means you get a 'free' relic.

I think it needs an FAQ to be certain, and until then check with your opponent/TO beforehand or assume you have to pay.

Now that I see that the new guard relics are "Heirlooms of Conquest", I'm thinking that I cant take the extra ones.

From War of Sigmar:

Spoiler:

I believe the use of the word 'instead' makes the answer quite clear.

Well look at that... the whole context of the rules gives the answer. Who knew?!?

Thought that might be the case. Happy to be proven wrong here
