I mean, you could just get regular Marines and paint one arm silver. And if you're good at free handling (which I think I am), you could just paint on the =][= symbol.
It just strikes me as odd that:
A) I haven't seen anyone do this yet and
B) the Deathwatch tag on GAs website also includes the Primaris sets without the upgrade sprue

Sure you'd want the special wargear, but for many units (primaris) you don't have anything "unique" over the regular sets

Any thoughts?

If you are skilled enough to paint it then I don't see any issue. Most people probably just want the hassle of all the extra work it would take to make them look good when you could just buy an upgrade kit

The only problem is that, compared to the more detailed, Deathwatch specific shoulder pads, they'd look out of place. If you could freehand the lettering as well as the "I" they would look much better in comparison. But the Deathwatch Kill Team box is so full of great details and options that I would personally just use that as a base for any Deathwatch models.

Yeah, I'm kinda cheap when I can be. I can see getting the unit with special gear, but Intercessors? Inceptors? I'll stick with the cheapest Dark Vengeance easy builds I can get.
I just wish there was a Primaris "variety" pack with a Hellblaster, Inceptor, Aggressor and a couple Intercessors for a Primaris Kill team, rather than buying several sets.

I'm starting to get tempted to get a unit for me "All Chapters" Marine collection

Do you ever buy individual models or bits from eBay? If you want to kitbash or mix and match it's usually a much cheaper way to go than buying full kits. Dark Imperium Primaris are super cheap on eBay and you can easily find just the Deathwatch shoulder pads if you want to.

I do and it's probably what I'll end up doing.
I'd like a full KT with 5 Intercessors (included Sgt), 1 Hellblaster, 1 Aggressor and 1 Inceptor. But that's only 8 models and I'd like 9 so that I can have one from each 1st founding Chapter.

Any suggestions on the 9th model? Maybe a Primaris Watch Capt or another non-Intercessor to round out the unit?
And since the project would be small (not doing a whole army), I could indeed free hand all the lettering behind the =][= symbol.

A watch captain would be cool, you could do a reiver as well. Sounds like a fun project, I'm not very experienced with free handing so it sounds a bit scary to me but I'm sure it will look great once it's done!

I didn't think about Reivers. Good call.

Second question: for the following unit, which models should be which Chapters?:

1 Sgt (Ultramarine with Power sword? or Space wolf with chainsword?)
1 Aggressor (Salamanders or Imperial fists?)
1 Hellblaster (Dark Angels for sure)
1 Inceptor (Blood Angels probably)
1 Reiver (Raven Guard?)
4 Intercessors (at least 1 Iron Hands, 1 White Scar, the other 2 depend on the Sgt and Aggressor)

Thoughts?

I grabbed a couple of the ez-build kits of primaris marines to make a handful of deathwatch primaris for my Kill Team force, and I found freehanding the emblems to be perfectly easy. they don't look exactly the same, and if I'd shelled the money for the stupid 15$-for-10 upgrade frame they'd probably look a bit better, but I was cheap and didn't regret it too much.

If I were going for a more sizable force, converting up vanvets or sternguard squads, I'd probably add the Deathwatch kits to them but, so far I have not had sufficient inspiration for this army to justify slogging through the wonderful my-wallet protector that is Mandatory Rhinos and all the misery they represent.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

So here's the breakdown I'm leaning to now:

1 Aggressor - Salamanders since Flamers and Termies (which Aggressors are the equivalent of) are solidly Sallies
1 Hellblaster - Dark Angels due to Plasma
1 Inceptor -Blood Angels due to Jump
1 Reiver - Raven Guard due to Sneaky
4 Intercessors - Imp Fist, White Scar, UM and Iron Hands (complete with half bionic head)
1 Sgt w/ chainsword - Space Wolves

The only thing I'm still on the fence about is the Sgt, which I could easily make UM with power sword instead.
But since the BA and DA are "special" models, it makes sense to have the SW as a "special" as well.

Any thoughts on this Chapter arrangement?

If someone came to a game with marines / primaris painted black and one arm was silver I wouldn't bat an eyelid. Yep, they are Deathwatch.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.
