So I'm no stranger to highlighting black Space Marine armour (see my All Chapters Marine project link).
But I had a thought about an upcoming Primaris Kill Team I'm working on: Use dark silver as the highlight instead of the dark grey I've used in the past.

I've done this in the past on some Eldar weaponry to give them a look of alien metal, but with the DW having 1 silver arm, it occurred to me that this could be a striking way to make the edges of the armour "pop" a bit more and mesh with the silver arm. I also might also add some gloss varnish to really make the armour look hard.

Any thoughts?

I think silver would make it look more like you were giving the armor scratches than highlighting it.

There's a Forgeworld pic of Ravenguard standard bearers in older armor that looks fantastic, but has the silver scratches on it to weather it.

Good luck and post pics if you do it!

I agree that this will give them a weathered look, as if the paint is rubbing off their armor on the edges. However, that could look pretty cool if that's what you're going for.

Thanx. I've got my Inceptor done and decided to go with a gloss varnish just on the black and it looks pretty good, but does make it look "new" and shiny, rather than weathered.

Strategic application of Necron Compound, touch up with black if it goes off-target. It pops on *anything* remotely dark-ish, without giving it the "new car smell" look..
