Good day with the Christmas season in full gear games workshop released it package deals in painting the have the project set and the ultimate project set. My daughter wanted the ultimate one which looks like it a bottle of all the citadel paint plus some of their tools in a carrying case. I also saw on Amazon the valleio set for less money. As a beginner is the citadel system worth the cost or can you use the other paint set? I would rather spend the difference on minis or kits. Right her two armies are tau and space wolves. But she has the starter set of tooth and claw and picked up some additional armies on eBay of neurons and candian troops I planning on painting everything the same tan with olive drab armor except the wolves they are painted in their grey and yellow all my vehicles will be panzar grey with unit markings like the real world sorry can't see a blue tank or prime mover ( rhino). Thanks as always. And her tau will be the firewalker yellow with black as she calls the case tractor color because we drive pass a heavy equipment dealership they have loader and backhoe out front that color scheme I was trying to get her to go with the more light sea green and purple colors like her gundams as a nine year old can only say daddy that a silly color combination for a fighting force. Wise in her years brought a smile to my face .

The Vallejo sets are going to be a much, much better value. Saving money on the paint and tools and spending the difference on more minis is an eminently sensible thing to do. Pretty much all Citadel paints have Vallejo equivalents that would be all but impossible to tell apart, so finding the colors you or your daughter wants should not be a problem.

I bought the Vallejo model color set on amazon, great set. I supplemented it with some more flesh tones and a few bright colors, but overall it's working great for me.

Make sure to get a few washes as well, it doesn't come with any, and they're quite important.
