I couldn't find a thread for this, so I'll start one.

This is my favorite Spider-Man movie. I really liked Homecoming, but Spiderverse has more heart and more grandeur while also being a personal story about Miles. It has some well-accomplished sci fi concepts and visuals. There are some hard hitting scenes that scared my son, so be aware of that if you want to bring a kid: there are deaths and some intense scenes of violence and threats. The visual style and sound/music combine to heighten the tension a lot.

Also, Nicholas Cage is awesome.

Just watched the Trailer and it looks great.

I am sad that Miles was not introduced in Civil War as the kid spiderman and Peter (or Ben) as the adult spiderman, but this seems to tell that story.

Miles IS in the MCU at least. Donald Glover is the Prowler and he says in homecoming that he has a nephew in the neighborhood. He didn't want those weapons on the street. The prowler is Miles uncle.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Ugh, it’s about Miles? Hard pass. I get that he’s been fleshed out since, but his intro was so crappy that I refuse to buy into the character. You know who else replaced Peter as Spidey at one point? Ben Reilly. And they had a whole lead up for it. Not like this “Peter dies and somebody comes out of nowhere having the exact same abilities this whole time but never stepped up cuz reasons” and being awesomer is a deus ex machina I won’t support. Just like most of the replacement garbage characters (iron girl, Chulk, Kamala Marvel).

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

They seem to have changed the back story. Miles only has the powers for a day or two before he puts on a Spider-Man suit. And he doesn't really come across as "awesomer."

I just saw it tonight, it was amazing. they really took advantage of the medium to make it a visually appealing, interesting movie.

I'd definitely watch a sequel. But then I'm not a comic book reader so this was my first intro to Mile as spiderman.

I saw half of it and thought it was awesome but too scary for the little one. She’s usually pretty fearless but all the very real violence in the beginning didn’t put her in a place where she could laugh at the cartoon violence later. There’s a silly “being dragged through the city by a webline stuck to a train” scene where she assumed everyone was dying horribly.

Also. This does a solid job of Miles origin story. Second only to the PS4 game imo.

This was a pretty incredible movie, one of the best comic book movies ever I would have to say. Good story, minimal backstory required (it's helpful though), and beautifully rendered.

The animation style was wild - almost every frame could have been a wallpaper.

Really enjoyed the post-credits cookie.

I saw it with my girlfriend this past weekend, and we both loved it. Couldn't have been happier while watching. Really good plot beats, and the animation and music were incredible.

Between this and the PS4 game, Spider-Man related media seems to have gotten a pretty good boost in quality.

Also, I really enjoyed how
Spoiler:
the alt-Universe Peter Parker was depicted. We're so used to seeing young, plucky, inexperienced Spider-Man in non-comic media. Even the PS4 Peter Parker hasn't entirely grown into his role. But Spiderverse Parker is completely jaded with his job, and it's fun to watch his sarcasm and eye-rolling when he first meets Miles. It's even better watching him organically start to shed that cynicism and even start being a decent teacher to Miles.

This was a really well animated movie, not sure I have ever seen a style like it before. It truly felt like watching a comic book with all its little quirks and transitions. Great soundtrack as well!

Ok, here's my question.

For those of you who have also seen it. Do you also see the film as a sequel to the Sam Raimi Spider-man movies?

Spoiler:
With the alt-universe(main? If we call Miles' universe Ultimate) Spidey being an older Tobey McGuire

I think the Chris Pine Spidey was supposed to be the Tobey Maguire Spidey and the other was Garfield Spidey? Or at least nods to them.

I agreed to a point, but I think it's reversed. Mile's universe's Spiderman was blonde, so he probably wasn't either Maguire or Garfield, but if he had to be either, he couldn't be Macguire.
Spoiler:
Mainly because Maguire's Green Goblin wasn't a hulking monster and his Doc Oc wasn't a woman. Garfield's could have been, but we never got to see that.

There were certainly nods, but no outright commitment to either. The older Spiderman, could have been Maguire's, though, as we really don't see much of his early days (i.e. what happens in those films) and his constant ...tragedies, for lack of a better word...certainly fits with Maguire's Spiderman.

Overall, I think this was a great movie and I hope it gets a sequel, potentially with some nods to Tom Holland's Spiderman.

This is actually harder to answer that it sounds. It references multiple events directly from those movies, so the Peter Parker in this movie is probably the same, or very similar, to the one from the Raimi movies.

However, it's not a direct sequel because it's too far forward in time, like going directly from the first X-Men to Old Man Logan. There is a substantial, largely handwaved time jump from when those movies ended. In that sense, it's a poor sequel.

Its probably the most well made animated film I've ever seen.

I don't think there is a movie that tops it in terms of animation quality or just how well rounded of a film it was. If this doesn't get a sequel or more movies like this, i will be miffed.

Well, in the older Peter Parker's intro, he states that he has been Spiderman for the last 20yrs, which kinda lines up with the 2002 release of the original Spiderman.
I had heard/read (can't remember where) that the film makers had discussed casting Toby Macguire for the part, but decided against it to keep it ambiguous.

It also has variations on the toby scenes. No black suit when dancing. Punches the car through the window instead of grabbing mj and dodging. Not passing out from stopping the train/being maskless.

I think its a very similar spiderman. But its not the same.

Also older spidy has some sense of humor to him. Toby is just a sad sack.

He seems to be the older version of more of a tom holland character.

I loved the movie, and definitely felt that there were enough references to Raimi's Spider-Man that that's who I feel he was 'supposed' to be.

Of course, with so many dimensions available, and with these two Peter Parkers being pretty close (ish), who knows!

Fun to speculate though!

Went to see this movie on my birthday with a couple of friends. It was a blast.

I definitely loved the after credits scene and would definitely recommend heeding OP's advice on that regard.

I liked Miles's Dad and Uncle as characters. My favorite alternate dimensional Spider-(wo)men in order is as follows (NOTE: They're all great characters in their own right, this is just my personal preference):

1. Peni Parker
2. Noir Spider-man
3. Peter Parker/Miles Morales (They're Mentor-Pupil dynamic puts them in a tie for me.)
4. Peter Parker/Miles Morales (They're Mentor-Pupil dynamic puts them in a tie for me.)
5. Spider-Gwen
6. Spider-Ham

Final Thoughts: Definitely liked it and would highly recommend seeing it if you want to.

This was great, best Spider-Man movie made yet (well I haven't seen Homecoming yet but I am sure I don't like it). I like how it wasn't dumbed down too much, with elaborate and complex plot, in fact much better than in any of the live-action Spidey movies. Despite being a cartoon, the movie was way too long and complicated to be a children's movie.

I have only minor complaints:
-too many meta jokes. Don't make tons of meta jokes and fan service moments in which is (possibly) first movie of a series.
-somewhat too predictable. I mean, given how well the movie was written in other respects, basic theme "young gun proves himself to old salts" is too obvious.
-end battle too long and confusing. Sometimes less is more.
-what's with the 5 ton block of Kingpin?

But other than that, oh yeah.

Mr Vetock, give back my Multi-tracker!

I understand this viewpoint but, the Clone Saga can die in a fire. I hated that story arc.

Spiderverse was very well done. I thoroughly loved it.

I always liked Miles as a character, but I was pretty upset that they killed Ultimate Peter the way they did so shortly after One More Day. I still haven't gotten back to Spidey comics after that.

Yeah, I know he did, but it was pretty clear by this point the Ultimate Universe was on the way out and I had fully learned the lesson of following creators and not characters.

FWIW though:
Spoiler:

He retires as Spiderman and officially gives up the title to Miles. Then his universe is erased from existence. Then its returned, but Miles ends up in 616 permanently so he takes up the mantle again. There just really aren't Ultimate stories anymore to read.

I would have a minor quibble with item one, because I would say it's not the first movie in a series; it's pretty much the like 5th or 6th movie or whatever in a series. Otherwise I would agree with what you said although I did truly love this movie.
