Just thought I'd share a couple of quick shots of my latest Knight additions, a Valiant and 2 Helverins. Latest in my Knight house of 3x Questoris Knights and a Castellan, although I'm still thinking of a name, perhaps House Nimbus? Have thought of a bit of backstory for each knight as they're all quite scenic bases, representing snapshots from the same conflict. If this gets some interest I may start adding more photos and the backstories.

Thoughts and comments appreciated.

The colors are done nicely. But if you want to make them look even better I'd recommend a recess wash in the panel lines/around the rivets/recesses and so on. This will really make those particular details stand out.

It’s coming along well, the painting looks nice and clean

However the Valiant looks unfinished; specifically, the meltas and their sensor pods seem overlooked. Not everyone picks out icons, but since you’re already using heraldry and other symbols, it might be good to do something with the groin cog too.
When you work out your fluff, try using a micron pen to write the pilot’s or machine’s name on the chest parchment.

This is personal taste, but I wonder if the Armigers could benefit from a touch of white to further tie in with the big one.

Thank you very much, I'm rather reluctant to touch the blue anymore, it's come out much nicer than I expected so I don't want to risk ruining it, although a very light wash around the rivets wouldn't hurt.

Oh yeah there's still details to be finished, mainly the Meltas and other little details here and there. Is there a tutorial anywhere for how to use micron pens? My handwriting's not the neatest to begin with, and would like to get it right, particularly in regards to the spacing.

I plan to put some white on the Armigers, perhaps a diagonal stripe on one of the pauldrons, but I may scrap the yellow; they all had typical Astorum yellow/blue scheme but as it's never come out right I decided to just go over with the blue and white.

It’s tricky to describe as it’s really just a form of writing.
You can always do test samples on paper to build up muscle memory practice, even if it’s with regular pencil/pen. It also may be helpful to look at calligraphy or medieval books and try replicating their styles. The key here is to take your time and focus on precision. You might treat it as a drawing of sorts, rather than normal writing; letters are ultimately just shapes. I find it helpful to make a test run on the model with a light touch of mechanical pencil since it’s erasable and it’s easier to follow existing lines instead of doing it from scratch.

For spacing, you’ll want to break down the piece into portions. I usually sketch a pencil mark down the middle as a reference point, but if needed you could even go all out with a ruler and designate exact proportional boxes for each letter.

I’d support dropping the yellow. If the blue were deeper, it could work, but the blue/white combo you have now looks pleasing and offers a stronger brightness contrast.
On further consideration, it might be nice to use some orangey paints (similar to the table, actually) on the creature and steel beams, to take advantage of complementary colors.

I think the yellow looks good, makes that mech unique. Maybe the pilot has earned the right to put their own colour on the war machine through birth or deed. Remember, they are rich aristocracy and not soldiers, they don't necessarily need a strict uniform. Although the opposite maybe true and they maybe held strictly to keep the family colour.

I'm working on a pair of armigers at the moment and have decided for radically different heraldic schemes.

masking tape works for painting straight lines too.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
to make sure paint does not go under it run a fingernail firmly over the edge that will stop the paint.

and make sure you don't get paint build up on tape edge. And remove the tape when the paint is wet.
