Sorry if this has been done;
I've noticed some units received points breaks in 2017 which have then been omitted in CA 2018.
Are we back to paying the points indicated in the index (or wherever) or are we going to have to carry years worth of chapter approved around with us?

Which units? I was under the impression that any changes in CA17 were included in CA18 even if they didn't change. In any case, the points from CA17 are totally invalidated. You use only the Codex (or index) and CA18 when it comes to points. The only thing CA17 is "good" for are missions or the other extra gubbins. No they aren't all carried over. Or at least I can't find the carried over point costs for the orks index options...
Buggies back to 44 points base?

That's a good catch. They did not bring forward the Ork Index points changes from CA17 to CA18. I guess until GW get around to errataing their book of errata (again), all the changes made to the Ork Index from CA17 are null and void. Any units not updated by the Codex (i.e. Skorchas, Warbuggies, and Wartrakks) revert back to their original index points costs. CA18 Page 124 wrote: If a unit or item of wargear does not appear in any of the tables below, continue to use the points values for it that are listed within the most recently published book for that Faction
"The most recently published book for that Faction" when it comes to the legacy Skorchas, Warbuggies, and Wartrakks option is the Index - Xenos 2. Yet more proof GW are moving towards invalidating the indexes for matched play, IMHO.

Though arguably CA 2017 is a more recently published book of that faction than index xenos ii?
Regardless, I'm updating my FA/elite slot fillers to be codex only. Gotta keep the book bloat down!

...something that has never been hinted at, stated or alluded to and is in fact just your personal preference, BCB. GW have said absolutely nothing about binning the Indexes. Just stahp...
The Designers Commentary says to use the “most recently published points”. So for an Index the most recently published points would be in CA2017 if they’re not in CA2018. This is in conflict with the CA2018 quote you provided, for those who take everything 100% literally, but nowt new there. I don’t believe there is a “CA2017 doesn’t count” diktat, but if I’ve missed it be cool to know. And anyway, if there are omissions they can be added back in the warranty period errata if people email them to the FAQ Hotline.

It call comes down to what "the most recently published book for that Faction" actually means, because GW simply cannot write rules. Perhaps we'll get an answer some time in 2032.
