As with political jobs and some Athletes they are in jobs that will pay them to do nothing until the contract ends

So they can have months of doing nothing but still getting paid... I though what I do with that extra time and still having money come in.

Would you start a new hobby or revisit one that you didn't have time or money for??

My personal feeling is to try to get caught up on some painting and maybe finally pull the trigger on buying an airbrush.

On the game side I think if I had the extra money I would revisit bolt action game..

I actually think about this a lot. I like my job and career, but three months off would really allow me to focus on something other than work. My first goal would be to lose weight and get into shape, and the second would be to work through my pile of unpainted minis. I think with some discipline and focus, I could paint for 4-6 hours a day, and finish a few projects. Specifically, I'd paint all my unpainted IG and ultramarines, and then probably make a dent in my eldar.

rented house currently so not worth it, but if I owned the place with three months the "garage" at the bottom of the garden, apparently made from whatever the bloke that built it had to hand (like seriously, and old kitchen table forms part of the back wall) would be emptied, demolished and replaced with a more sturdy and waterproof wooden structure with power and possibly running water.

Then I could get round to wishing I had three months spare to go through the junk in there, remove most of it and put a table in there.

If I had 3 months free and still had money coming in? I'd definitely want to go traveling, maybe take my minis with me and go on a world tour of FLGS': be a great way to meet some new people. (Though if I did that I'd probably also need anothing three months to learn some new languages so I could actually interact with people in those countries)

Shikoku pilgrimage non-stop. It's fun enough doing it in pieces like I'm doing now(2 months off is kinda hard to take) but doing it in one go would be even more interesting experience.

For me, it would be painting minis and writing stories, in-between binge watching a few favorite (or new) tv series.

Maybe by the end, I could actually get one of my novels published...

Been Around the Block

I managed to wing that a few years ago, I packed up everything to put in storage, then went to Mexico and Central America for 3 months. I know we all like to think we would use it for hobby stuff or something productive, but I'm sure I would have pissed it all away playing computer games and getting depressed if I was at home with nothing in particular to do

I'd definitely love to have a whole month or two to sit down and get some painting done!

Absolutely get some painting done and I might even spend more time at the FLGS and try to watch and learn a new game.

Side note - BUY the airbrush. It will save you so much time on base coating your models. I have been painting on and off since 2005 and I wish I had bought one back then. I got one for christmas and I have been able to paint models in a fraction of the time from before. I was able to base coat one dreadnought, 10 space wolves and a space wolf character in both the fang and then russ gray in like 45 minutes. That would have taken me hours before doing it by brush. If you like doing details and having finished models get the airbrush. I also like that larger areas look smoother.

Hobby-wise, I would finish ALL of my Daemons. But let’s face it...3 months to do absolutely anything wouldnt be about painting; it would involve a trip overseas to see family, maybe pop into Europe, then I could probably see a couple weeks available to paint; could at least finish my Slaanesh stuff.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I had 8 years of not having to work while my wife was active duty. I got sooooo much painting done then.

I miss having that much time to dedicate to armies, the wife misses coming home to dinner on the table and no chores.

I had two years where I was only lightly employed - working from home, barely paying the bills. On the flip side, I did accomplish a monstrous amount of hobby, and general other stuff. However I was on a serious budget limitation, so that would be a bit different - if I had money, lol.

I don't think I have any goals I could accomplish in three months so I'd probably use that to travel to as many conventions or visit as many friends as possible --- since travel is one of the harder things to do when busy.

Same as I do now. Try to exercise more and spend more time with my family.

It's not like my wife can take time off with me :(

I was unemployed for a year and training for a new job so I had massive amounts of time. I used it to paint 4-5 hours a day and finished a 2000 point dwarf army for LVO in 3 months. I now work insane hours and barely get to paint/play at all, but I have a great job.

Life is always about trade offs.
