Hey,
I'm starting a pure primaris Ultramarines army. I want to do a bit different approach on the colours and after a little googling I couldn't find any successor chapters I had in mind.

I'm thinking seepian white armour with Macragge blue shoulder pads with UM logo and detals. Can anyone point me to the right direction.. Atleast Marneus Calgar needs to be painted pure blue as with his honour guard, but other primaris models should be ok to paint with the colour scheme I had in mind, right?

Thanks for help.

You don't have to paint Calgar blue. If you want to run an Ultramarines army but with a different colour scheme, that's perfectly fine, even if you don't paint them as Ultramarines.

White and Blue is a common scheme for Ultramarines successors too. If you're going with a custom chapter, then anything goes.

If you want to run calgar and co in your chapter perhaps slap another head or helmet on him for an easy conversion and call him the chapter master of your chapter who uses the rules of Calgar. It would be kind of odd to see him leading a successor with no Ultramarines around other than Tim and Jim (his bodyguards).

I’d go as far as saying don’t even change the head if you like it.
Space marines all look similar anyway

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Point is, you are just using that model to represent your chapter master, it’s just a model.
And game wise, there is even less issue, you are using that model to represent those rules. No issue.

I’m all about custom chapters and making it your own

Consider borrowing the colour scheme from the White Consuls chapter?

http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/White_Consuls

It's a while colour scheme, and I don't think anyone would object to you filling the shoulder pads in blue if you so desired. You could even do a home-brew chapter with your own name and using the Ultramarines rules. Calgar doesn't have to be "Calgar of Ultramar", he could instead be a legendary Chapter Master from your own chapter who runs with similar wargear. I'm a huge fan of people using Special Characters to represent their own homebrew characters with awesome rules and awesome models.

It's your hobby, rule of cool. White Ultramarines will use the same rules as Ultramarines in the codex, simply tell your opponent that you're using an Ultramarine army. Unless you paint them up red and cover them with Blood Angels iconography, nobody will bat an eye. If they do, tell them you've changed your mind about the game, because anyone who has a sook about the colours you paint your toys is likely someone you don't want to play.

Thanks guys for answers.

I'll try my paint scheme today with couple of models to see how they work in the real world. I'm using the UM helmet colours, most likely atleast.. elite being a white aswell.. Have to see if it works.. Because I would need to paint all regular ones blue..

Back to my next question: About squad numbers.

Let's say I'm doing a full 2nd company. How does the squad numbers go. Does heavy support units start their squad number from 1?

I mean, here's an example:

1st squad: Intercessors - Battleline
2nd squad: Intercessors - Battleline
3rd squad: Intercessors - Battleline
And so on...

So my do I start my Hellblaster squads from 1st or let's say from number 7..

1st squad: Hellblasters - Fire support
OR
7th squad: Hellblasters - Fire support

Hope I made myself clearly enough

The squad numbers are for the whole company. So in this case the Hellblasters would be the seventh squad.

UM successors use literally every single color in canon already so you can paint them even rainbow palette and no one sane should mind. No, really, name color, any color, there is UM descendant sporting it.

Technically, with Codex reforms the squad numbering is a lot more 'free' and depends only on company mission. While yes, traditional internal squad would be 7th or 8th, the additional, extra squads attached might be any number from 11 to 20...

Yes, but even then numbers are still for the whole company.
