So I am always interested to hear people different thoughts and opinions on the world of 40K from their head cannon.

We all know how marines from jumpacks look really. We've had interpretations of the video game, along with descirbed book details. Head first using the jumpack to navigate carefully to where they need to be.

However We have Inceptors and Reivers now using Grav chutes etc. How do people head cannons imagine these Marine arriving from orbit.

With Reivers I personally imagine them arms crossed over chest and legs first. Almost like falling through a chute down to the ground. Then as the grave chutes kick in they land superhero landing style upright as hitting the ground. Inceptors I imagine being similar to jump pack assault marines due to the newly designed visor they wear.

This topic also goes out to other modes of transport or obit deployment. Repulsors dropping form Gunships etc.

Not exactly what you're asking for, but the eShort 'Terminal Velocity' is told from the PoV of a marine falling to the planet after his dropship is destroyed.

Don't inceptors have those funny skid-boots which probably provide some level of suspension when they hit the ground.

I can see space marines in power armour being able to enter from high atmosphere having been slowed down by external means (jump pack, jumping out of a shuttle / thunderbird etc), but if they were deorbiting on their own, I think they would get burned up in the atmosphere from the bow shock pressures... or cook inside their armour.
Hitting the ground is another thing though... they'll need to decelerate from terminal velocity to something more survivable. I'd guess they'd be travelling around 100 miles an hour... i don't think an astartes could service that without slowing first. I guess that's what grav chutes and jump packs are for.

Those flaps on the back of Inceptor jump packs are grav-chutes. Not sure if or where they're stated explicitly but they're identical to the optional equipment on reivers that represent grav-chutes.

And inceptors drop down from orbit diving head first, the bulk of their upper body (with closable face-plate) taking the brunt of re-entry and the rest of their body trailing behind in their wake. Once air resistance slows them down sufficiently they reorient with the flaps thrusters and suspensor field and descend in whatever manner they want to descend.

Reivers use their grav-chutes to deploy from fast-moving aircraft, not from orbit.

Reivers dropped only from aircraft? I only ask because on the datasheet it states "High Orbit"

I'll have to double check the fluff blurb in the codex - the rules do say 'high orbit' but I think they're just using that as a short hand for 'in reserve', Inceptors also say 'high orbit' in their rule but they're described as deploying from craft in low-orbit in the fluff.

At that point though we're just quibbling about terms - the difference between high and low orbit on earth is something around 35000km but writers use the terms interchangeably, my main point is that I understood Inceptors have reinforced gravis armour in order to withstand re-entry and Reivers notably don't have that.

Makes sense tbf. Although I do like the idea of ghost faced reivers silently screaming in up right behind enemy lines

Scions in grav chutes can make drops from the stratosphere while jumpack Marines can't, I am guessing that the Reivers can do the same.
