This movie was a treat for those who like their SF nice and solid. So naturally it didn't have a chance at the box office. Anyone else here like it?

I think it's time for a TPS movie thread.

Yeah, I suspect he'll get The Talk sooner or later.

It probably will take a couple of times to get it to stick. Or maybe he'll burn out before he fades away.

Anyway, 5 years ago, this movie didn't make a lot of money, anywhere.

Not sure if it was "because too smart" or if just because "rather boring" with a somewhat 'meh' ending.

The boring with meh ending did it for me.

I cant remember anything that happened in it. Wasnt there something about genetically engineering a tree or some gak?

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Not sure?

There was certainly a lot of glowy lights, sinking into the ice and cameras cutting away before you got to see anything actually interesting...

I was rather pleasantly surprised by it, but that is because I watched it a year or two after premiere, approaching it at home as a typical B or even C class sci-fi movie on an evening I had nothing better to do and fully expecting to fast forward it or not end it at all. But it turned out quite solid rehash of the classic first contact in deep space trope. There are far better and far worse movies out there. I would be disappointed however, if I went to cinema to see it, just not good enough to pay for it.

Well, that's one solution to some mild criticism which only requires a moderate change in approach to resolve, sure!

He said that last time when politics got banned from OT, yet he came back anyways, so I wouldn't take his word at face value. Probably to throw people off before he comes back to start the 90th thread about X movie and how he noticed a piece of dust on his TV screen.
