While discussing marine dev squads and shooting with the Company Ancient an interesting interaction came up.

Signum - Before a unit shoots in the shooting phase you can choose one model from this unit that is within 3" of its sergeant; you can add 1 to hit rolls for this model for the rest of the phase.

Now of a model is killed in the enemies shooting phase my reading is you can use this, as it doesnt specify "your" shooting phase.

Also if you lose 2 models and one passes the ancient roll and use the Signum, can you then use it again if you pass another roll later in the phase? As it doesnt state once per turn, it states choose one model before the unit shoots.

What is peoples views on this?

An interesting conundrum. I'm not entirely sure, it'll come down to definitions. This isn't a case of "as if" vs "is" because you are actually shooting in the shooting phase.

My take on it: It's not a unit that's shooting, it's a single model. Which means none of those shenanigans are an issue.

If you manage to fire twice with the same unit, you probably could add another +1 to a model within 3''. But I'm not sure if that's actually possible at all.
What is possible is to use the Cherub to fire again in the same shooting phase, and if you do that with the model that was boosted, it's still boosted. Not a 100% sure though if you could do that on an Ancient's proc outside of your own shooting phase though, might want to check the Cherub rule for that in detail.

That is actually a fair point, you have to use the Signium "before the unit shoots", and you're not shooting with the unit. The "immediately" is implied however.
