Okay, so I have two Imperial Space Marine models I loved back in 7E, but seemingly disappeared in 8E.

I found them in the Index Imperium 1, but there's nothing on how they're deployed in 8E.

Anyone know?

The last three games I've had, I fielded them as independent Characters, which was...odd. Like playing Kill Team 7E, only a lot more frantic.

The Imperial Space Marine has his own datasheet, so he is simply like any other single model unit with the elite role.

I missed out on all that hype. Can someone clarify what an 'Imperial Space Marine' is?

Do they have white armour and bad accuracy? Are they part of the Imperium [Like every other Space Marine] but need another descriptive word? Why are they one man squads?

It was a limited release of a resculpt of the very first Marine model to celebrate 30 years of Space Marines. Quite similar in approach to the recent Noise Marine - a retro remake. The original metal figure was called an Imperial Space Marine so the update kept the name. Came out with 7th rules to swap into a squad for free; 8th has its own solo character Datasheet in Index Imperium 1.

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"

Index:Imperium 1 is still part of 8th edition.

If there's no datasheet in Codex:Space Marines you can simply use the one from the Index.

Remember that a lot has changed from 7th to 8th, if the Datasheet says "CHARAKTER" as a keyword it will have special rules due to that - mostly that it cannot be targeted in the shooting phase if there is a non-character unit closer to the enemy unit. If it is just a regular unit, it can be targeted just like any other unit.

There's no more "joining squads" though
