So, i am thinking about building some Griffon mortar carriers.
Mainly i am in need of a plan for the Gun plattform, has anyone allready done a Griffon conversion and if, how did you do it?
I also suspect that i would need potential 3rd pary guns to fix in the back of the Chimera, where would i find such guns?

Haven't done one, and at this point probably never will, but my plan when I was working on my rat guard was to simply use the Basilisk angle tab included with the (old) Chimera kit, and some plasticard tread-plate cut to fit on top, and don't worry about the railing, then mounting a gun to it. I was doing skaven-guard so I was planning on using the old WHFB 8th ed starter set mortar team, but Kromlech does a mortar here: https://bitsofwar.com/home/144-imperial-siege-mortar.html, Victoria does one here: https://victoriaminiatures.com/collections/artillery
Or you could look up mirliton historical guns, or one of the fantasy sellers, "Warhammer 40K mortar" in google turns up some likely looking ones.

Thanks , that indeed could work.
I thought about using the regular Basilisk and shorten the Barrel and use plastic card for the rest, which would probably the easiest solution.

I actually have a Griffon conversion in my cabinets somewhere. It's mostly sheet styrene with a fairly crude plastic tubing built mortar in the back. The gun crew are an old Valhallan mortar team.
I actually made the whole gun deck interchangeable then built a second one that could take a Hydra turret. I'll try to dig the vehicle up tomorrow and take some glamor shots if it helps.

My plan for the Griffon was to simply cut off the Basilisk barrel immediately after the overlap.
It would appear that Griffon barrels have a larger bore (calibre?) than Basilisks do, but I doubt anyone will really care.

The Eyechild uses the top part of the Basilisk barrel. I'm talking about chopping that bit off and leaving the rest of it intact.
I'd lose the shield, too.

Yeap that i figured myself but it is still iffy since the lower part needs to be shortened carefully because the recoil Gas cylinders are longer again. (not to mention because gw is cheapo you then need to use the shield because they made the recoil cylinders flat angled in the hidden part)
Also remember Mortar =\= howitzer and the shield would basically turn it from a siege mortar to a howitzer at which point we would probably be better off with running it as a Basilisk.

Honestly, I'm not sure why you want a Griffon in the first place. I think Basilisks are superior in every regard. I don't use the shield 'cause of the honking great aquila on it and I wouldn't recommend you use it either, for the same reason and also because, like you say, it's not a howitzer.
My GIMP skills are simply not good enough to quickly remove the shield from the pic I posted.
If you have some francs in your pocket you could get the Heavy Mortar from FW and rig it to the back of a Chimera, though I'd submit you'd be better off running it as an artillery piece than a Griffon.
Otherwise, perhaps a larger scale historical mortar mini might work, but I have no idea where or how to find one.

I mainly want the Griffons because supposedly it is easier mass produced and chimera Basis support for mechanized regiments. See the correlation?
Frankly you are right about one thing though, mainly that producing Griffons should be fairly easy and improvisable therefore i could go and expand my horizon into historical stuff.
Edit: as for the Fw suggestion.
No, that would be to expensive for a conversion, not to mention fw resin is something i don't really want to see anymore after my last debacle with it.

Fair point.
As for the recoil-dampeners, I wouldn't sweat it honestly. The Basilisk is already a hugely ridiculous machine. It has no apparent engine and it would be almost impossible to load with the barrel in a firing position.
I left them in place, but you could just as easily chop them off.

Also true.
Technically i guess you could avoid the Basilisk and instead get a wyvern to modify (not to mention if you magnetize it propperly you'd also have a Hydra)
In that case you could form the barrel out of something else.

Actually you could use the demolisher endpart to basically fix the issue with the Basilisk chopped off.

Not Online!!!,
I would look at eBay or ask on the Swap Shop.
Because the model is out of print now, there are always those willing to sell one cheaply.
That was how I filled in the third of mine to make a proper squadron.
Here are the Griffon Heavy Mortars.
Cheers,

Part of it, it only came with the mortar and half of the unit meant to hold it up. There was a hull with an attempted conversion, but the original owner shoved the resin on there in such a crap manner that I gave up on trying to salvage it and tossed the hull. Now all that is left is the mortar, half of the positioning unit, and a piece of armor meant to go on top of the carrier.
