I was thinking of using some GW LotR elves, mainly the Galadhrim, as the base of a small army that an opponent could borrow.

The troops of infantry would probably be 8 strong due to the numbers they come in, cavalry 4.

The Galadhrim would be joined by some Mirkwood elves and Warhammer/AoS dryads.

I'm not a massive fan of GW (multiple reasons - for a different thread!) but the LotR plastics seem reasonable and I like the look of the figures - due to the design restraint imposed by the IP.

Has anyone here used any LotR minis for KoW? Did you have any issues?

I have not, but I certainly plan on doing so. I will be using Rohan as Kingdoms of Men.
12 figures to a regiment, 6 cavalry to a regiment, it works out at just on the minimum number but it does not look too bad on the table because the tray is obviously "full".

I really like the Rohan but would be tempted by the Mordor humans - Easterlings as the armoured choices and Harad for the lighter choices, maybe with some corsairs as irregulars. Not a big fan of the Khandish stuff though.

Haven't myself, but there have been a few posts about just that on social media.

The problem is usially getting enough round LoTR bases onto a KoW unit base (to keep the mini's usable in both games).
If you are multibasing then they're just cool fantasy mini's.

a mate of mine is using the Lord of the Rings Gondorians as Kingdoms of Men shield wall and archers and that works decently. He doesn't have that many and uses them as allied forces for his dwarven army. He just rebased them as 8 for a troop and 16 in a regiment. I can ask him for pictures if wanted.

That said, their size is comparable to other '28mm' fantasy miniatures. 6 minis on a troop tray would look quite sparse, so a bit of creatiivity would be needed for that full rank-and-file feel. Some webshops sell round-slotted regiment bases, so the minis can be used for both. If you do use these, the regiment bases have some space for terrain and unit filler. Especially with irregular units (archers, rangers, haradrim), this can work really well.

I certainly don't mind using more minis, the numbers I am suggesting are based on fitting 25mm base rounds into a 100mm x 80mm regiment or a 100mm x 40mm troop.
If my opponent does not mind my troops being a bit deeper, I would be happy to up them to 8.

One of the things I like the most about KoW is that unit footprint is what counts rather than individual base size, so it allows me to use my entire collection of fantasy miniatures in one game. I have armies for LOTR, Warmachine, and Warhammer Fantasy, as well as just stuff I bought for Dungeons and Dragons all of which can be used in one sytem. That is really exciting, to me.

Fully agree that IF you want to keep the models based on rounds, you can't fit more than Minimum model count. That's the cost of flexibility.

Enjoy the game!

BTW: here's an upload of my mates' LOTR elven allies for his dwarven force: https://ibb.co/X5CLyS6
