Hi all, I love the lore and the look of the Thousand sons and want to plan a list with them. I'm not looking to win any competitions but I want to have a list that can still put up a fight. I decided to go with a Thousand Sons detachment with another Tzeentch Daemons detachment. My basic plan is to have Ahriman support the enlightened with a shaman, have the rubrics and flamers hold the objectives, with the tzaangors and horrors acting as screens and anti-infantry.
Any advice would be great, especially on stuff like spells.

Yo!

This is more down to personal preference than anything else but I think you could use more anti-tank in there. (As the enlightened & Helbrute is just 'enough').

If you wanted to trim down;

If the rubrics are going to be holding objectives 10man squads of cultists will do that for half the price. (If you don't have the models that's fine, cultists are pain to come by these days)

What's the role of the 2nd shaman?

I also don't rate Tzeench Exalted flamers and Screamers. I find they generally don't have enough impact in low numbers and tend to die quickly. Would recommend more Enlightened, or another helbrute to shore up your gunline a little bit.

Again this is all down to personal preference, list looks good!

I like rolling lots of dice.

Thanks for the advice!

I think I'll keep the rubrics because they look cool and I think a 1k sons army should have at least 1 squad just because of the lore.

I was planning to use the second shaman to boost the tzaangor blob. Do you think that's worth it or should I just webway/dark matter crystal them into the fight without the shaman buffs?

For anti-tank what would you recommend? Another lascannon helbrute or one with more fighty gear? Are maulerfiends worth it?

Np

And ye I agree, a 1kson army without Rubrics is a real shame. I generally run 1 squad but primarily with flamers, either using a Landraider or Darkmatter Crystal to make sure they get into burny-burn range.

Boosting the blob is a good idea. I actually completely forgot about the blob

Maulerfiends and epic, especially with Warptime & Diabolic strength. But they're not as great as you'd expect against tanks. They're better for Tyranid Warriors or Ork Meganobz. I would go with Lascannons, either in dread or pred form.

Another thing to say about your daemon detachment is it's currently not getting you any cp;
If you drop the exalted flamer and take 2 squads of 10 Brimstone Horrors instead that's an extra 5CP. Brimstones are also great for objective sitting, letting you get your Rubrics up the board.

Tbf if the new bolter beta rule sticks Rubrics will be decent mid range objective holders.

You should definately find the points for 20 brimstone horrors to get yourself a second battallion for 60 points is a bargain.

One hellbrute is generally a bad idea. It'll get focused on by the entire anti tank from your opponent and not make it till turn two. Either take 3 or double down on smite spam. You could drop the screamers, flamers and helbrute and take 2 extra daemon princes.
