Subject: Can we open more than one thread about a similar topic again? (Movies and Techpriestsupport)

The whole consolidating movie threads has pretty much killed the posting and enthusiasm in Geek Media. The argument boils down to "He was making too many posts" on a forum. That is a silly argument. He wasn't spamming a particular forum that was knocking off popular threads to page 2. It really comes down to "We don't like that he is posting this much."
I am also a little confused on how a thread with 9 people supporting the OP was able to convince the Mods to shut down numerous popular threads. But I mean, good decisions and all.

It looks pretty active in there, and you can make similar threads - there's just a limit to how Many similar ones
What did you have in mind, it might be just fine and doesn't hurt to ask?

It doesn't look pretty active in there. It really has died down a lot. Those threads were fairly popular, it seems the minority won the day there.
But really I am asking for multiple threads involving different aspects of movies.
There is a limit to similar ones? The ones that were deleted, what were the similarities?

Dude, start a thread. If it doesn’t get locked or otherwise criticized, job’s a good’un.
If it does get locked / whatever, you’ll know that wasn’t ok for next time. Learn the hard way.

Its the same rules for any other sub forum, don't duplicate threads, don't spam, its not a personal soapbox/blog etc. Also if the thread goes too far off topic, is flamebait, gets used as a vehicle for politics etc. it will get locked or deleted as appropriate.
As for the main point of this thread did you have a specific thread or topic in mind?

I'll be honest and say that i don't think you should put the persons name out there like that, imagine how he feels seeing this.

Imagine how they feel signing up to a forum, being active and then being told hey, a couple of people don't like what you're doing so shut up.

It is? Then why were those threads locked? If it follows the same rules as all others why were they banned? They do not fit in to Spam because they had content and purpose. Not off topic. They also had a lot of people posting in them. Also if a thread gets too far off topic, that is generally the mods fault for not stepping in and fixing it. Notice that in other threads, posts just get deleted wholesale when off topic or they upset people.
The question is more are we allowed to start threads with similar topics like the movie threads? Or do they have to be a big condensed mess of a thread like the Anime thread?

I imagine he is just as confused by his threads being locked as I am.

Meant to respond to this earlier, but my boss had the audacity to make me do my job at work.
When you made this post, the “Favorite Werewolf Story” was the top post, so I was going to use that as an example.
Favorite Werewolf Story is a great topic, but the poster you mentioned would then go this route:
Next Thread: Least Favorite Werewolf Story
Next: What is a Werewolf Movie that you love and everyone hates?
Next: A Movie I found on Netflix. I have nothing really to discuss about it, just wanted to post about it.
Next: Werewolf Movie that gets a bad rep. Did it deserve it?
Next: A genuinely decent thread.
Next: What is a Werewolf Movie that you hate that everyone loves?
Next: A movie I found on Netflix. I have nothing really to discuss about it, just wanted to post about it.
Next: I just finished a book. Does anyone else finish books?
Next: Werewolf Movies to avoid.
Next: A movie I found on Netflix. I have nothing really to discuss about it, just wanted to post about it.
Next: A genuinely decent thread.
Next: A Werewolf movie that derps the derp but then derps.
There is alot of overlap and redundancy in quite a bit of it, all over a short bit of time. At one point, I swear he had maybe half the threads in that subforum, most of which with 0 replies. I don’t think dude was malicious in his spamming spree, but it was spam none the less in my, and others opinion. Not all of his topics were locked either, so there was no blanket supression of that particular poster.
Hope that helps.

Along with the above, was the constant stream of 'I just watched this old movie on Netflix, so started a thread about it'.. which is fine in isolation, less fine when it starts filling up the front page because a given poster is practically living on Netflix...
So yes, it's fine to start different threads about different topics - for example, we still have multiple threads talking about various upcoming movies.
But topics that realistically all fall into the same discussion should, as always, remain in the one thread. There's no need for multiple threads on technically different topics that all wind up being repeats of the same actual discussion.

Oof, I wouldn't use that above as any sort of example given that it drastically limits the amount of films that can be talked about instead of the widely encompassing term of "Movies."
For reference, here is a link to the topics he has started in Geek Media. https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/recentTopics/showTopicsByUser/0/118912/95.page
Of the 9 banned posts, only 3 of those had less than 1 page. Two of those were immediately locked by Alpharius for whatever reasons. I am not sure. One of them was actually remade because it was a bad lock and then had more posts in it. (That thread wasn't locked)
Of the others that were locked, they were used to consolidate in to one thread. Then that thread was locked because "Well, since no one actually wants to talk about movies ITT"
His Europa thread was locked because it got trolled and then he was punished for it. One of those was even a mod, or ex mod. Not sure anymore. But it was the same mod who locked two of his other threads almost immediately.
There are some serious discrepancies going on here with this poster and his threads. To the point where it seems he is being targeted by the mods for almost no reason other than an enthusiasm for posting.

You seem to be viewing a thread lock as some sort of censure. In itself, a thread being locked means nothing more than that the thread was locked, and that doesn't necessarily reflect back on the original poster at all. It only becomes a problem if a poster, say, ignores direction from the moderation team on what is and isn't considered appropriate for the forum.
The threads in Geek Media aren't the whole picture here.

As opposed to starting like half of the threads in Geek Media and seeing all of them locked? The mods were 100% right to lock those threads, because they were spammy and repetitive.
