Hi guys, im well versed in the lore and have been watching 30k from a distance for a while now, lookingnto take the plung and slamanders are my classicaly favorit faction in the lore but i have some rules reservations, so if you wouldnt mind answering some questions i woukd apreciate it

Are they commited to flamers and melters? I personalyam not the biggest fan of these wepons, how often are they the best choice for salamaders armies?

Allies take me out the thene, can salamanders be functional without allies?

How do vehicals fit into salamanders? Transports galor? Take as many tanks as you can, dreads are your friend?

Midnightdeathblade (just rolls of the tounge, eh?) did a real nice thread on salamanders a bit back that had me thinking of doing a similar thing for the Mechanicum
Here it is...

I believe it should have the answers you seek.

Consider looking up the Covenant of Fire podcast and messaging or emailing the guy who runs it. Let him know what it is you like and don’t like - you still might decide against starting an army, but it’ll be a more informed decision.

They’re fine with allies or flamers.

Some of your questions apply to all legions. I’m a fan of meltas (combi-meltas for Veterans or multi-meltas on Speeders, Attack Bikes, and Rhinos) in any legion army, and with a few exceptions (e.g. Iron Warrior or Death Guard gunlines supported by shooty Terminators, Space Wolves with their run bonuses, Alpha Legion and Raven Guard infiltrators) everyone should always have a transport. Assault Transports, in the case of melee units. Contemptors don’t necessarily, but Leviathans and Contemptor-Cortuses do need to dropped in.

Armored Breakthrough (Predators as troops) works well. You still want some infantry, ideally in the form of Firedrakes and Veterans. The Covenant of Fire Rite of War is a little tricky to build because of its restrictions (losing Deep Striking hurts, and most Troops units aren’t that great), but it also pushes you towards a tank-heavy army.

Pride of the Legion also lets you focus on Firedrakes and Veterans, with a limit on vehicles.

If you’re okay with quasi-allies, a Praevian with some automata is handy.

This is what I said in the past thread:

Agreed, Sallies make amazing armoured breakthrough / mechanised assault armies. Amazing death stars, requires another seriously armoured list to tackle (sicarian with the death lazer, lascannon squads in forts, quad mortars, medusas, etc.) Since most people aren't donkey-caves, and use metla guns and melta bombs, sallies can capitalise on that.

Imagine a mechanised army with lots of death stares that you cant kill with anything melta, that's really hard. And your termies/flamers/ meltas are super deadly. They can survive one round and dish out as much pain.

I play blackshields and I want to use them as sallies to represent the survivors or Istvaan. I want to use an Age of Sigmar lord on Drake. The fluff is that this is Vulcan's cute doggo create dragon - Vulcan loves to hug it and it also survived Istavaan. So I want to model a mad man riding vulcan's massive drake that can survive all of Vulcan's hugs.

Anyway man, great feedback. I agree with everything you said. Its only a shame Salamander players are so unrepresented.

Mechanised and very hammer infantry. The rhinos and other transports are you anvil because they can't be killed my melta. Only really expensive things can kill it.
