Galaxion is coming up to six months without an update.

The creator has stated she doesn't want to feel that making the comic becomes like a job, which is fair enough, especially considering I've never paid a penny to read it.

However, it's always a bit sad when things fade away like this. At first you look every few days for an update, then every week, then every fortnight, then monthly, then eventually you just stop looking.

Megatokyo filtered out of my consciousness in a similar way, accelerated by the proliferation of plots and characters.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Sometimes going dead is better than going on forever. Looking for Group has kind of felt like they've been ticking over without any real direction or the same energy they started with for a long while.

Manly Guys hasn't updated in ages http://thepunchlineismachismo.com
I think the creator just got overwhelmed with life and stuff

With regards to Many Guys:

I know it’s been a couple weeks since an update, but honestly, after eight years of doing this with no break the whole house of cards just kind of collapsed on me. I had no ideas, no energy, no time, I just hit a breaking point where I was sick of putting up unfunny filler comics every week and needed to take a break to sleep and play a videogame to make a videogame joke about hahaha.

Which is fair enough, it had a good run though.

Some of my all time favourites either stopped or ceased to be, like Lucid TV or Coloring Book Land.

It puts the work of professional cartoonists into context. Steve Bell's "If" has been running for about 30 years and it's consistently brilliant.

Of course he doesn't have to do work outside his cartooning.

Plus its a job that pays his daily income as well. Those two elements are big things when it comes to work ethic and also focus. When something is purely for fun and might make a little here and there on the side its sometimes good to relax and let it go or have long breaks. When your next meal comes from it I think it makes creators push through tricky or dry idea times.

Of course sometimes it can go too far - Simpons is a good example where its become longer than it should have and has lost some of its original appeal and style. It's not to say it isn't still good, its just changed and sometimes the jokes feel a little dry or repetitive .

I enjoyed Zombie Hunters, but Zombie Hunters I think is confirmed dead by it's author.

There's also Dreamkeepers, which I thought was really damn good, but hasn't seen it's main storyline updated in like 2 years. The prequel comic gets regular updates, but it's largely spiraled away from the original storyline and is mostly about goofy antics on the part of the characters in their younger years and has little relation to the original story.

Same applies to YouTube channels. Someone appears with great content and you follow along for a while then they vanish. I’m hoping it’s just burnout and not something tragic. Makes you wonder, thinkinb about being a member on a forum like Dakka Dakka, if anybody would notice if you disappeared.

Ha!

Yeah, probably not.

Huh. Apparently I can now lament the "death" of Mama Penth and Big Sis Jeanne as well. Reddit change to their rules on loli characters to includes the line "this can in some cases include depictions of minors that are fully clothed and not engaged in overtly sexual acts" which sounds like the admins giving themselves leeway to deal with rules lawyers, until they ban the author of a comic with no explicit content for an entry that didn't even feature any characters under the age of 18, because apparently a grown man in magical college is according to the reddit admins a minor because he's short and scrawny.

Eh. Megatokyo palled on me just based on content. The switch from comedy to 'author avatar is creepy around high school girls' wasn't something I was willing to take in.

I'll admit to following a couple webcomics for a while (a binge followed by a couple weeks) then abandoning them due to a slow pace of updates.

Some day I fear that Order of the Stick will wind up in the discontinued pile (give the long times between updates). The same could be said about Goblins!, but that's more hope at this point.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

Goblins has spent several periods in the dollldrums of silence and no updates before now. Though its always remained true to itself, though I can't help but feel they need to get this dungeon they've been in for far too long - over and done with and move out - esp since it takes the zaney insane stuff out (that's fun for a while but can eventually get to a grating point where it annoys more than entertains or where its used too often to pull out plot holes).

The author has fallen into deep depression sometime around the last Kickstarter due to several factors IIRC. She has done art in the meantime, but nothing related to the comic. It's a shame it's no longer updated, but I can understand wanting to focus on something else.

I'm actually surprised that Keenspot still exists, it used to be a hub of some of the biggest webcomics of the day, before they either died or moved on to places of their own.

Which reminds me.. RPG World ended really abruptly as well, shame really as it left us with quite a few cliffhangers and open plot threads.

Damn. That's a shame.
