UPDATED LIST FURTHER DOWN IN THE THREAD

Hey all I'm making a comeback to 40k after a long layover and starting my collection from scratch. Love the Blood Angels and they have some really nice boxes available so I thought I'd try and make a nice starter list. Should be flexible enough to easily grow without having to really drop anything. I also put together a Deathwatch list for cheap, but they seem like a hard faction to start with so they will probably end up as my 2nd or 3rd army eventually.

So first thing's first, I have 21 points left over. Absolutely no idea what to do with them.

As much as I was tempted to go all flamers and kit the Baal Pred out with flamestorm cannon and heavy flamers, I figured I should have at least a little ranged punch!

Biggest issue I see with my list is the lack of ranged anti-armor. If the Dreadnoughts can get to grips with tanks with the help of the grapples that's fine, and the frag cannon should help with light vehicles, but I'm concerned about them getting there consistently. I'll probably just point the Death Company Dreadnought at the armor since it has a meltagun.

Other issue is the lack of Chaplain support for the Death Company. He will be added when I expand the list, but I just couldn't fit him in here. I suppose I could drop the Captain, but I wanted to use him since he comes in the Start Collecting box.

Not 100% on the Tactical Squad loadout since I'm already bringing 3 heavy flamers on my Dreadnoughts, but hey.....these are Blood Angels! 2nd only to Sisters for purging things with fire!

Anyway, I would love to hear some thoughts. I'm super excited to get back into 40k and want to start off on the right foot!

Welcome back. I suggest you read the BA tactics thread to bring yourself up to date. Unfortunately flamers are meh in this edition.

Thanks for the reply! I was considering the Librarian Dread already so I'll modify the list with that and Lemartes in the HQ slots.

Are flamers meh because of how short the range is? I know it sucks that they can't overwatch if the charge comes from outside their range, but if I go heavy flamer + meltagun on a DC Dread it would be good for clearing screen units right? I mean the DC Dread will be the one closing the distance against most anything anyway, so it should at least mitigate the range issues.

I'll also modify the Tactical Squad load out.

Is going Bolter + Chainsword on the Death Company fine? 4 attacks on the charge with rerolls from Lemartes for only 100 pts seems great. But maybe a thunderhammer in there too to threaten heavier stuff? I know I lose a bolter, but still.

Flamers are meh because of only 8" range, and D6 shots for 14 pts. What if you roll a 1 ? A SB is better for horde clearing, with the new beta bolter rule its 4 shots at 24" on the DC dread. Melta is meh too, plasma is the weapon of choice, but you cant use that on a DC dread. With melta you need to be within 6" to get the 2D6, discard lowest dice advantage. And its only 1 shot. Melta is anti armor, its not a screen killer. You can go with 2 flamers for screen clearing, but its expensive. I would also suggest a magna grapple.

Yes, boltgun and chainsword is fine. It doesnt hurt to add a TH, PF, or some inferno pistols for high toughness targets. Dont shoot what you want to charge, otherwise your opponent might remove those models closest to your DC, making your charge longer.

If you want to optimize your list any further you can drop the baal predator and replace it with a razorback with twin AC, which is basically the same, but cheaper, except for the heavy bolter sponsons. A razorback also serves as a transport for 6 marines. You could reduce your tac squad to 6 models, but you dont have to, a razorback works fine without an embarked unit.

Yeah at some point I was thinking of swapping over to 2 MSU Tactical Squads with 2 Assault Cannon Razorbacks and dropping the Predator, but I'm going to wait until I expand the list. And even then it will probably be after other stuff I want to add.

Even with the 10 tacticals you can combat squad them and put the seargent, heavy and special weapon marines together in a razorback
