Hey everyone,

Just looking over the stats and points values etc andam wondering if anybody uses some alternative to a Knight Castellan in their list?

Of course, aside from the real world cost (particularly Thunderhawk) I see a few models that could be used instead, for only 100 or so more points with significantly more firepower, particularly something like a Falchion.

Any thoughts?

Shadowsords were the go to for this role before the Knights codex.

They have the offensive power without any of the invuln save bull that Castellans get. They were good, but fair.

I'm working on a list with a pair of Knights Gallant instead of a single Castellan, because you can basically get two for the price of one. Jury is still out if its viable competitively!

I run a Crusader. Against hordes or units with invulnerable saves, the weight of fire from Endless Fury tends to be more valuable than the fewer, higher AP shots that the Castellan gets.

Also it can RIS for 1CP which means you are not so tied to the miner detachment. It is also a bit faster and better in melee which can come in handy.

Why not a Valiant
Serious talk though, the Astraeus tank has a gakload of firepower and is extremely durable for not much more points wise. A buddy of mine got one and it has made its points back in every game it has been in.

Falchion? The twin shadowsword marine superheavy? Say hello to castellan that will win the duel. Q is what you are looking at? Super heavy killing? Castellan is designed super heavy killer that can go machine to machine and come on top. Hell castellan can win duel with pair of shadowswords and be last machine standing if it gets first fire. 1 on 1 it can even give shadowsword first shot and average out being lone survivor.

Almost nothing Forge World makes can go against Codex units and expect a fair fight. FW rules are basically written in a shed on somebody's lunch break, and as a result things tend to be hideously ineffective and overcosted.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

There is nothing that can match the Castellan. It is overpowered, and due for a nerf.
