Hey everyone! I'm starting out a scions army because I absolutely love the models and the lore behind them. I know they aren't tournament competitive,but they're more for playing with my buddies. We do play casually, however, we are all all pretty competitive so we go for smaller lists that aren't super optimised to balance fun with fluff and actually trying to win. Would just like some opinions on the list

Spoiler:

++ Battalion Detachment +5CP (Imperium - Astra Militarum) [52 PL, 1000pts] ++

+ No Force Org Slot +

Taurox Prime [6 PL, 114pts]: Taurox Gatling Cannon, Two Hot-shot Volley Guns

++ Total: [52 PL, 1000pts] ++

General plan is each valk has one command squad, one plasma troop squad and one of the HQ's (I like balance to make target priority more difficult) with a mission to hover and drop their payload turn one. The 2 tauroxes in the rear providing anti-infantry support, holding objectives, or moving forward. The 10 man with the volleyguns will most likely drop wherever support is needed. Criticism on my tactics also welcome XD

I would try to find the points to put Lascannons on both Valkyries. It's only 20 points to upgrade both and Lascannons are ridiculously better than Multi-Lasers. I would also replace the Lord Commissar with another Tempestor Prime. Both Valkyrie drops want orders and a Prime riding shotgun in each gives you more tactical flexibility.

I was thinking about it but they only hit on 4's and I have to get rid of the heavy bolters which should provide a few more infantry kills. I'll have to think about it, for sure taking the tempestus prime, had the commissar for my original plan with more people in squads for the morale boost

Not necessarily. You can trim points on the lone Plasma Gunner in each command squad. Trust me, 1x S9 -3 D6 damage shot is going to be more clutch than 3x S6 -0 1 damage shots. Multi-lasers are complete garbage. A Lascannon upgrade for 10 points is a steal. If you're going to run Valkyries, the best load out IMO is Lascannon, 2x Heavy Bolters, 2x Multiple Rocket Pods. Don't forget that you can split fire. Put the Lascannon on a heavy target and the Heavy Bolters and Multiple Rocket Pods on whatever else.

The Battle Cannon and Gattling Cannon seem such a waste on the Taurox as the LR get to shoot twice for the same amount of points.

I've had decent success with ML/Dual AutoCannon

No madam, 40,000 is the year that this game is set in. Not how much it costs. Though you may have a point. - GW Fulchester
The Gatling Guns have flamethrowers on them because this is 40k - DOW III

Yeah I kept the ML and the heavy bolters, want the valks to clear screens for the meltas plus keep them kind of cheap. I have the taurox because those are the models I have and wanted to keep the list pure Tempestus Scions

Completely understand. I would still use the Taurox, just equip differently.

First things first, the list is illegal, you can't have 2 command squads with 1 tempestor prime. It is one command squad per tempestor prime. Also at 1000 points don't know you need 6 meltas, would just make 1 squad 4 melta 1 squad 4 plasma. More flexible, and save you some points. Also personal preference but plasma pistol on your sgts aside from the volley gun squad. Reason being its cheap, and another plasma shot you can over charge (barring modifiers), and you should ALWAYS be inside 12" range for your targeted enemy.

Finally Tauroxes, IMO the gatling/volley load out is overcosted because of the range, you have to move to shoot anything so 4s turn 1.

Then, your tauroxes are almost always going to be at least profiled before you fire them in the 2nd turn. So 4s or 5s. Generally find Tauroxes to over costed no matter their role. I only have 2 uses for them personally, 1 with gatling load out stuffed with a squad that isn't deepstriking (your valks are being used for this). The only other use I have for the is mostly for larger point games, equipping a couple with missile/autocannon load out. Generally in larger point games your enemy has more important targets, and because of how far back they can sit they can often give you a couple good turns of shooting.

I would just take entirely Plasma. It's almost as good as Melta against hard targets, better against everything else, has twice the range, and costs less.

That list would make the Scions lose their doctrine.

If the truth can destroy it, then it deserves to be destroyed.

That and I wanted it to be full scions.

Yeah I was thinking of changing the command squads to plasma instead. The only thing is that I don't want the list to be too competative but I guess that's the point of this forum page. I mainly want the taurox for holding mid or backfield objectives.

Because Scions aren’t from normal regiments, they are from special forces regiments, so they can’t take things like sentinels or leman russes. They lose their doctrine if they do. They only non Militarum Tempestus units Scion detachments can have are from the Advisors and Auxillia list.

If the truth can destroy it, then it deserves to be destroyed.
