Hello, Devil Pig Games just posted some news about the future of their lisenced 40K game: Heroes of Black Reach.

This year they will have a P500 style pre-order campaing to expand the range of Black Reach: Both Orks and Ultramarines will get new units.

In recent weeks, the community began to speculate about the future of the HoBR range. It’s now time to slightly lift the veil on this subject.

First off: the Heroes of Black Reach range will continue! The development of the Heroes System range in Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40.000 universe is a great opportunity for us. It’s also – we admit – a childhood dream for us, the Pigs trio. In short, no way we’ll stop here!

So what are we going to do?
Complete the Black Reach range?
Propose new armies?
Rejoice!!!!!
In 2019, we’ll do both!

We’ll start by expanding the HoBR range. In 2019, we will do two P500 campaigns, each with two expansions.

On the program: a Goff Stompa, Bad Moons, Evil Sunz and Ultramarines, as well as new terrain allowing you to vary your battlefields.

We will show you visuals in due course, and either way, before launching the P500 campaigns.

The other news is that they are doing a second starter box: Heroes of Valedor

We currently are working on a new core box, in a format similar to that of HoBR (a core box, two reinforcement packs, a few additional products and a storage system), offering you new ways to explore another theatre of operations. I am pleased to announce the release of:

Heroes of Valedor

After the Ultramarines and Orks, we’ll now develop the Eldars and Tyrannids.

Delivery of this new range is scheduled for the first half of 2020.

This is a very interesting game and I am hoping to see it expand. It is 15mm scale 40K with a more streamlined rules system and simpler army construction. I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the tactics and army list builds. It seems simple at first glance but once you start to peel off layers there is a lot to ponder.

You have to build for anti-infantry, something to punch armor, and most importantly a decent command structure. Leaders are more important than just a better fighter.

As a former 40K player, I am not familiar with the current state of the game. But I do know that previous versions were a bit cranky in spots. This really hits a sweet spot for me in gameplay, complexity , and scale.

I just got my copy of the base set, but an Eldar v. Tyranid starter sounds great!

I got my 65 year old father interested in Heroes of Normandie, and I had been dreaming of a 40k version for most of a decade, ever since Fro tiers, the original sci-fi game that birthed the Heroes game engine. Truly a sweet minis game without actual minis (meaning I can play it to get a wargame fix without taking time from painting for my other games).

The literal only reason I don't have Heroes of Black Reach is that my love for 40k means I'd never play Heroes of Normandie again, and I have tons of stuff for that version. Definitely echo the complexity versus gameplay.

Super stoked to see new terrain and new armies, though.

"By this point I'm convinced 100% that every single race in the 40k universe have somehow tapped into the ork ability to just have their tech work because they think it should."

Glad they decided to go with two xenos factions, although I'd still love to see Chaos come to the game.

Chaos would have meant more Space Marines, just Red this time.

I'm glad they chose two very different armies as the 3rd and 4th armies.

And, Ultramarines + Tyrnanids = Battle for Macragge!

DPG has currently having a pre-order campaign to add some new things for Heroes of Black Reach:

Bad Moonz stuff like Grot Tanks (tankettes?) and Mega-Dread. Also a second set of ork order tokens in Bad Moonz colours (for 2 vs 1 games or Ork vs Ork action)

Goffs get a Stompa.

Ultramarines get some Drop Pods.

More terrain tiles for the Black Reach map set.

The ork stuff in spoilers as they are large pics.

Right now there is the pre-order going on:

- Bad Moonz ork set: 3 punchboards, bad moon order chits and dice.
- Battlefields set: 3 new map boards + 3 punchboards of map overlays
- Bonus of Ultramarine drop pods punchboard: free if you order both of the above sets.
Note: the drop pod punchboard might not get into shops after this pre-order as it is a pre-order bonus.

Then, later this year there will be another small pre-order:
It is hinted that it contains new units for Ultramarines and Evil Sunz. So there are propably some fast attack choises like bikes for both?

Then, at the end of the year or beginning of the next year comes Heroes of Valedor: Eldar and Tyranids units.

It is often overlooked that the Heroes system is essentially a minis game without minis. I am having a great time building and painting 15mm forces to use. So you get the easier and simpler rules, the great setting of 40K, and still get to paint models.
