So I am soon to begin a second Astra Militarum army based on my 487th Lunar Venatorii Panther Cavalry Regiment 'Wyrm Guard'. Anyways the set up I have them working as gunning from bikes, horses, and flying wyrms. Now I know the Wyrms have no close equivalency. But the bike and horse troops can be Rough Rider conversions and I will deal with the rules. However I want to know viable tactics for them. In support of them I will have traditional Guard in Chimeras and if I can afford it Turoas <buggies>.

For the bike models I plan on converting genestealer bike models.

Building the Rough Riders in with Straken as Catachan is probably the best since it is the only way to get additional lance attacks. If you give a company commander the dagger relic Straken can outflank with them.

Cadia can also give them a boost for one turn with the Lost Relic and technically Overlapping Fields can give them no risk plasma.

Any Rough Riders can also benefit from Yarrick's aura.

Other than that the lack of orders and other benefits denies them much effective synergy with the Regiment keyword.

So this is the link to the regiment that I am kind of building for tabletop. Or at least making a go a building what I can.

Suggestions on formations I should try to represent the 487th? I know Rough riders at least a Couple squads. I was thinking a Mounted Platoon in chimeras and maybe two squads of buggies. For Command do a Company Commander with advisors or and Inquisitor.

Bump. Really looking for ideas for tabletop tactics and formations I should model towards for the Tabletop. Even Doctrine ideas would be welcome.

While Rough Riders don't really benefit from the Tallarn regimental doctrine, I've found that Tallarn Chimeras are the way to go for mechanised infantry. It lets you move your transports and still fire your guns at full efficiency, and I'm a big fan of being able to move and advance the guys on foot and still be able to shoot with them. It makes for a very mobile army.

Mobile infantry sounds good. And I wonder if the Buggies would benefit. Don't have the book yet but are the Turaos still a thing?

So Tauros Buggies are FW rules only. But are still a thing. Looking over my list building either I can do a mix of Fourth Battalion and either First or Second Battalion elements as a special Detactment kind of thing at 1500 filling a Battalion Detactment type or do a Outrider Detactment and still not get a Full Company out of it.
