I was thinking of hosting a Highlander tournament (after some people in my club are doing that for 40k) to change the meta around for a bit (there have been a lot of 2000 pts raw tournaments lately in my area), and wanted to see if anyone had experience with the format.

For those unfamiliar:
The idea is:
1500 pts (maybe I should even go to 1000, because not everyone has a huge collection?)
1 allegiance.
No duplicate warscrolls, unless it is necessary for battle line requirements. (So you can take 2x same unit if you only have less then 3 battle line options in your allegiance)
Minimum sized units only.

Anyone experience with the format in AOS? Am I forgetting something obvious?

Hard to imagine, but balance is actually worse at 1500 and 1000. Limiting to minimum size that worse since armies like Gloonspite will be thrown in the gutter (20-man grot units are terrible for their cost). But even then the guy that shows up and puts down Nagash/Archaon is going to have a massive advantage since smaller armies do not have as much to draw from when trying to deal with them. Many summoning armies do so just as effectively (or close to it) at smaller point values as they do at larger ones; a 1000 point Seraphon army will still have little trouble bringing in an extra 500 points of models. FEC can summon in 600 round 1 even when limited to 4 hero slots and no duplicates. Etc.

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

could stay at 2000 but I think I won't have many competitors as most people won't buy stuff for a single event in my area.

I could say no models of over 500 pts... That takes care of nagash/archaon.

The summoning problem is the same whatever the format. But I could limit them to summoning the same kind of unit max 1x/game . Having min. sized units as the max you can summon. that fits the bill of the highlander spirit and limits them a little. Also not many people will be willing to buy stuff to win a small time event in a format that will happen only once (i hope)

I am not trying to balance the game, I am mostly trying to change the format for a single event so that people would have leave there comfort zone and rethink what they are bringing. just a bit of fun but still competitive.
