Howdy folks,

Me and a Gothenburger went to a tag team tournament in Västerås during the weekend, the same one that Cavetroll attended.

This is a brief report, because it would otherwise have been one of constant, utterly constant dice misfortunes. Never have we seen such abysmally poor dice rolls for crucial tests through 4 games in a row!

For our fifth and last match, we got a table with a couple of sacrificial temples. So my teammate got the brilliant idea to rank our three most underperforming units in our armies, and march them straight unto the altar, and sacrifice them for free magic dice!

These were, in order of their lousiness (with different names in T9A, but I'll name them by WHFB standards since that is most people's common ground regardless of what system they now play):

1. An Ironblaster Cannon

2. A K'daai Destroyer

3. A Stonehorn

So we killed at least 1/3 of our own army in exchange for fireballs, and though the blood sacrifice was ultimately found unworthy (bloody right!) since we didn't win the game, we still performed much better without these terrible wastrels, than we did with them.

It was our best game in terms of victory and battle point results, and in terms of sheer fun.

So next time the dice gods hate you, throw the losers on the altar!

Great theme for an army! Have you posted this stuff already on a 9th Age forum? Dakka Dakka has low traffic for everything related to WHFB.

The only stuff that is questionable are the name and description: Krupp? Herrenvolk? Give me a break.

Certainly, but there was no interest on T9A. More so on Ulthuan, Lustria Online and Chaos Dwarfs Online.

Hehe, the Finns' went with a German naming theme for their army, don't ask me why. Babylonian all the way here, baby!

I find alot of the ideas you post about quite amazing.

Why so loyal to T9A when there is no interest there?

Cheers!

There was no interest on T9A in this particular little tournament report, but there sure is some open interest on T9A for many of the fantasy concepts i pepper them with. And aside from visible interest on the forum, I know for certain that T9A team members do take note of these ideas.

As to loyalty to T9A, it's all about aligned interests. I'm interested in an expanded Warhammer fantasy style setting, on a historical basis. They too are. They also have over 300 volunteers (artists, game designers, writers and so on) working in their spare time, so T9A is without a doubt the best option out there to support for a popular setting of a kind I want more of. It's not a miniscule player.

Furthermore, the very fact that it is a volunteer contribution means that it's infinitely easier for an outsider like me to get proposals carried through to official status over there, than it is with companies like GW/FW. The very divorce of the setting from any interest to sell minis, promote new products or avoid creating new background niches that competitors might rush to cover (e.g. Inuit or Inca Dwarves), means that T9A is the best bet to thoroughly expand upon Lotr's and particularly Warhammer's historically based fantasy model. In fact introducing new concepts in non-profit T9A is a good way to get several competing companies to try and cover this new niche, which can only be good compared to one-company-dictatorships - so to speak. It's more fair and more open in every essential creative way, unburdened by suits craving money and unique IP.

T9a is also much akin to to the creative freewheeling that has characterized Chaos Dwarfs Online as a creative hobby hub for over a decade. But for all of WHFB, not just a single faction.
What could be a more natural continuation of my usual work, than to carry on with the Ninth Age just like I've done with Chaos Dwarfs for years now?

So now is the time to chuck lots of new background concepts at T9A, while the released background is still in a formative stage.

It's a grand adventure in the spirit of both Tolkien and Warhammer Fantasy. Be welcome to join us.

Now I understand.

Sadly whenever I have tried to get involved in 9th age I usually annoy someone, and also being a plebeian on the forums my opinion holds no sway in the process so I lose motivation.

That's the curse of internet forums, everyone speaks loud and thinks theirs is the only right opinion.

I have learnt to draw a line between what works for me and what works for others. A lot of times there is some overlap, others there isn't, and there's nothing wrong with that. Different people search for different game experiences, and the forums should be a gathering of different ideas and game conceptions not Byzantine discussions about the sex of angels and dick-measuring contests.

And that works for company-supported games, too. Take what you want, leave what you don't.

Very true!

I'm not a fan of everything about T9A, but enough essentials align with what I really like that I'm willing to chuck in my lot and ignore the warts and the nays.

Cheers

Very true. With T9A I believe I will just have to be content with lurking.

Hell no, participate and make your ideas known.

Just don't expect everyone to have the sames tastes and gaming preferences as you and your group.

I'm sure your ideas will be of interest of someone somewhere. The good thing about T9A is it encompasses all kinds of gaming backgrounds.

Thanks for the part encouragement (and part discouragement), but I will stick with lurking unless something gets me excited for the 9th age again.
